Thanks to his win over Stan, now Tommy Haas is assured of the all too important #16 seed
at RG (as JMDP is out). Good job Tommy. May be you are the unnamed player, who knows.

He'll play for sure but whether he'll win more than 2 matches is another thing. Very disappointing year for him with all the recurring shoulder problems :( Just hope this isn't the end 'cos when fit the guy is still a very formidable challenger to anyone on a good day.

Anyone know what the points are now? Perhaps Rafa is close to building on his all time record for weeks at #2 :)

Rafa has to wait until after FO to add more weeks to his #2 occupancy record.

Yes, and hopefully he will be adding more weeks to it soon! (apologies for the mild trash talk)

No apologies needed.

I hope he does go back down to No. 2. It's no secret he does better when he's chasing No. 1, than when he is No. 1.

Also -- and I've posted this dozens of times over the years -- the No. 1 ranking doesn't mean anything to me. Federer has such a solid lock on that record that it would be pointless for Rafa even to give it a moment's thought.

I agree that Rafa has done better as the hunted but eventually he will fall off enough that he is simply left behind in the dust. It happened with Roger in 2010 and happens to them all eventually. Djokovic is more of a wild card in how he will handle getting back to #1 if/when it happens.

I feel certain it's a matter of when, not if, but it is a good question you raise about how he'll handle it -- especially with the off-court distractions of getting married and having a child.

This is not new to him. He already had been #1 in case you forgot. The last time he handled
it very well, keeping the reign for more than 100 weeks.

What? That implies 100 consecutive weeks, which isn't true.

since feb 2nd 2004 we still have only had 3 world no 1 players.

I'm sure everyone knows this but its still an amazing stat. much like 1974-88 era of Connors-borg-McEnroe-lendl)

^ I didn't realize that…and not likely it will change for at least another year. Big change from the early 2000s, when the #1 was changing hands by weeks amongst many players.

Grigor is 23? No longer a child. I'm glad he's moving up, but he needs to giant make a spurt soon, if he's going to be a factor in the majors...

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the birthday party on court. 23. Ralf had how many titles by then??

Not only Rafa, but players like Murray were making slam finals and knocking off the top players so regularly, they were expected to win majors sooner rather than "eventually..."...
