Ah ok, thanks... Just surprised you brought up a player ranked around 300. Missed that Davis cup match. Have never been impressed by jerzy though....

jerzy is a bit poor at the minute but is still top 25 so a 17yr old beating him in 5 sets is interesting, and he played murray last year (davis cup) although murray won easily he wasn't too out of his depth at 16...and we need some new guys to bust through to the top.

Good result but it says more about JJ's poor form imo than anything else.

Janowicz has all the right weapons (albeit predictable serving patterns) but just not the head or killer instinct this guy has.

This is an ATP public forum after all, not an ATP elite one and if there is a member who is following a player who is ranked #1 or #999 they are entitled to post about them.
Those who are not interested in that matter, feel free to skip it or ignore it.
If you want to be sarcastic or just not interested, fine by me. I will just notice that you are not interested in that particular player.
I am following for example, from a statistical point of view, who are those players who are improving in the top 100, where they can stretch their boundaries and at what age.

Relax. My impression of JLLB posts are that they are often funny and feisty and mostly about the top players, so I was just surprised he brought up this random player ranked outside the top 200. I appreciate his motivation to do so of course, it was just not that obvious for me. But the Croatian kid is duly noted now ;)

^ BTW, JLLB has been keeping us updated on Coric for a while now. He's got his eye on the kid, which is useful for everyone, and is why I like this thread. It flags players on the rise, or who are otherwise trending, that we might not notice.

borna coric lost his challenger semi to aussie bloke (alex ward?)..watched it on some new system called live--somethingorother ?? one fixed camera, really clear, sharp, no freezing pic, is it a pirate site ?, not seen it before, couldn't believe there was no pic freeze, dunno if it was them or my new "superfast fibre optic broadband".

coric has sharp serve already, ros is not good at this point, prone to get his feet stuck when he should be moving but IS quick when he does remember to get into gear,

new rank high. 246.

Mahut really has been a late bloomer. Glad to see him doing well. One of the last s&v players on tour along with Llodra, Stepanek and doubtless a few others I can't recall right now.

Cross posting the following message here too as this is probably more appropriate thread
for it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Assuming Roger does not play in Rome. if Ferrer reaches SF or higher at Rome,
he will be ranked at #4 ahead of Federer. This will give a crucial advantage in the
seedings for French Open. However, the chances of this happening is less
considering Ferrer is in Novak's quarter and most probably needs to defeat
Novak in order to reach Semifinals in Rome. This is an argument in support
of Roger sitting it out.

2. On the other hand Roger seems to have a fairly easy draw and should
be expecting to make it to SF fairly easily. Milos, Tsonga and Fog are the other
seeds in Roger's quarter (and there is also dog generally hanging around there).
I do not see a major threat from any of these folks. So, playing in Rome would
give him an easy way of getting 360 points and getting some practice in
conditions similar to RG (and give him an excuse not to deal with diapers :coolSmile.
This is an argument in support of Roger playing it.

3. In case, Ferrer surpasses Roger in Rome, Roger CANNOT try to regain his
place back by taking a wildcard and playing in Nice or Duesseldrogf at the last minute.
The reason being that the results of Nice and Duesseldrof tournaments will not be
taken into account for seeding purposes at RG. In other words, although the
risk of Roger losing his spot in top 4 may be minimal, if it materializes then
there is no recourse to deal with seeding problem until RG ends at least.

In the end, I believe Roger will probably make the decision purely based
or at least primarily based on the family and home situation.

Just a soothing reflection for Fedophiles. Even if Fed does not participate in Rome
and even if Ferrer surpasses him in rankings and Fed gets demoted to #5, it will
affect only the FO seedings. As far as Wimbledon seedings are concerned, Fed is
virtually assured of a top 4 seed based on his current ranking and the formula that
Wimbledon uses.

Even though Fed lost early at Wimby last year, as Fed won Wimbly in 2012,
they would add 75% of that 2000 (=1500) to his ranking points before the
seeds are determined.

So, a fall in ranking will not have long term consequence for Fed.

With his title in Madrid, Rafa is guaranteed to enter French Open as #1 in the rankings
independent of whatever can happen in Rome. That will certainly be a psychological advantage.

Give him a chance - he's getting there. He's already risen spots this year, from #23 to #14.

True, plus he is younger. I know, many have been forecasting greater things for Grigor than the other peers, but this is how it it in today's tennis. It takes time, a lot more than a few decades ago to rise through the rankings.
