think the AO cup s/b named after him! (if you checked out my post on the subject of multiple major trophy winners)

He's won it four times. Same as Dre and Fed. Maybe it should be called the Djofedre Trophy? Or, since Emerson has first dibs, the Emdrefedjok Cup?

They weren't as young as Nole at the time of their 4th title and they never won 3 in a row! There's a big difference in expectations and possibility of future titles! :clap

Not a fan of that idea at all. Novak already has his name on the trophy.

Me, either. I get the enthusiasm, but none of the Slam cups has a name, at least on the men's side, except that the French one is called La Coupe de Mousquetaires, after their great early French players. Does anyone seeing that one renamed for Nadal? I think not. Wimbledon…forget it. If anything, the Aussies could call theirs after Laver, which I wouldn't mind, but they've already named their stadium after him.

If any slam was ever going to rename their trophy it would be after one of their own. I've seen threads on forums suggesting the Wimbledon trophy should be named after Federer, Sampras or Navratilova. Never, ever going to happen. They wouldn't name it after a Briton and they certainly wouldn't name it after a foreign player - no matter how great they were.

I'm still waiting to see how Wimbledon are going to honour Andy.

They will, but it will come after his retirement, don't you think? I tend to agree with you that a Slam would honor its local heroes, if they were to name a trophy, at all. That would leave Roger, Rafa and Nole out, but I have a hard time feeling bad for them, on that score. They have won quite a lot, are all destined for the Hall of Fame, as is Andy.

The Wimbledon club committee met in October 2012 and decided on a way to commemorate Andy's Olympic success. An insider said that this has been held up by legal wrangling over the five-rings logo. They met again in October 2013 to decide how to honour Andy's Wimbledon win. I'm hoping we'll hear what it is before Wimbledon starts. I did read that they would need to make sure it was something that Andy was comfortable with.

I think there is enough honour in winning these trophies without them being named after players. I'd hate to see it ever happen.

Maybe the queen will brand her initials on his arse on centre court. "One is most proud, my dear"

Why not? 'H' & 'M'. Berdych might have something to say though. ;)

The AO naming the cup after Novak has to be one of the strangest ideas I've seen someone here throw out. It makes no sense on any levels. And that's not even touching on the fact that other players have been more dominant in other slams.

I, for one, am holding out hope for the day the FO trophy is called "Rafael with Cheese."

Thanks JLLB :) I either didn't know or at least had forgotten that players get points for the Davis Cup!

yes it is just for the world group / world group play off they get rank pts for though.. ..I think the lower davis cup groups should have at least some rank points for a live win, I mean borna coric defeats jerzy janowicz and gets zero pts for it.

I agree that all players that play DC should get at least few points for a live win. At the lower rungs, even a few points can move a player up a place.

I don't think Samuel L. Jackson goes in for asterisks.

I just can't remember a period where the US was so lost when it came to tennis! I think it was in the mid 90's, maybe '96 when Agassi was missing in action, playing qualifiers, and probably in a stupor! We had only Sampras at #1 and of all players at #2, Michael Chang! I didn't think it could get any worse when Roddick was our standard bearer and barely holding onto a top 10 ranking! What in the world is going on? Querry, Isner, Sock, Young, and Harrison need to step it up; big time! Who are these other clowns? We used to have a top rung of players, a 2nd tier, then the D' listers that could win in smaller countries! OMG, can it getting any worse?
