It's not even a discussion, is it? I mean, things are what they are, but this was a terrible bad day for Rafa, because of the back.

A great day for Stan though, and he played great through the tourney, and proved his mettle against Nole, but it can't be seen as anything but a freakishly bad day in a career already blighted by injuries...

Nope. It's not even a discussion. Stan is the deserved champion. He outplayed Nadal when they both were healthy.

In fairness, that wasn't the discussion, but I agree, Stan was playing better at the time, and we don't know if that would have lasted. It doesn't tell us anything about what Broken put to Front - but I like ya style! ;)

And yeah, nobody's arguing whether Stan was deserving or not. But it's hilarious to see people her acting like the match was over.

Deep down inside, most would have still bet their lives on Nadal down a set and 2-0. Let's not even try to argue otherwise because honestly, people would be full of it.

I don't think anyone is acting that way. The point is that that first set and that amazing break are our only reference points. The rest is just speculation, also of the part of the Nadal fans here.

Except I'm not speculating about anything. I said I would have still leaned towards Nadal, but I never said Nadal would have absolutely won, because you're right, that would be speculation.

What did say however, was pure facts, and not speculation. What happened 2 games into the second set onward was due to Nadal's injury. That doesn't mean Nadal would have won, or that Wawrinka would have won anyway, it just means that the action unfolded the way it did because of the injury. I don't quite understand what you're disagreeing with me on.

Stan becoming #3 and he will stay there until IW surely. Big chances for him to saty there until clay season, because the majority behind him (except Roger) defend a lot more than him at IW and Miami respectively.

Brutal, just brutal. I know it won't happen but imagine if they announce him on court as the Swiss #2!

I think they'll start devising them into sub-categories to keep everyone happy.

Roger will be the Swiss-German number 1, while Stan will be the Swiss-French number 1. There, everyone goes home happy.

The thing that cracks me up is that at least Switzerland have one other top ranked player but when they announce Murray as the British number 1...please, enlighten me, how many other top British ATP players are there?! Just announce him by world ranking instead.

Yes, we will see. But, he should give a big thought why he is coming up so lame against Rafa. That "should fire him up" more than anything else.

Yes, absolutely ridiculous. As if it is an achievement lol. Maybe they started doing that to annoy Rusedski, and now its a habit?

You know, as an American it is absolutely embarrassing that we do not have one player in the top ten. While the Swiss, a country much smaller than the US, has two.

WHERE is men's American tennis?

WHERE is men's American tennis?

They asked Pete about this, when he was in Oz:

Q. What happened to American tennis, men's tennis?
PETE SAMPRAS: You tell me. What happened? I don't have the answers.

You know, I think the world just got better. I think the game got more global. You know, we're doing okay, but we're a couple levels behind the top guys.

Just I think the world got more exposed to tennis. You know, you look at where Rafa is from, Roger, Novak. This is maybe a sport they wouldn't have played 20 years ago. Now all these great other athletes from other countries are playing tennis, not just soccer. I think that's part of it. I think maybe their satellite tour is stronger than our American college tour, where it's maybe not as strong.

There's a bunch of reasons. I just think the world has gotten a little stronger.

I think it's a question Americans are struggling to find an answer to...

big news..after the 2004 Australian open Federer went to no 1 rank on feb 2nd 2004,

next Monday its 10yrs of Federer/nadal/djokovic as world no1 rank, similar to the 14yr stranglehold of the rank charts of Connors/borg/McEnroe/lendl between aug 1974-sept 1988.

Stan is #1 in the race to london rankings.
Delpo moved up to #4 in spite of a horrible showing.

Well deserved by Stan. Wish I could say the same for Del Potro though.

WHERE is men's American tennis?

Here:
13 Isner, John (USA)
49 Querrey, Sam (USA)
79 Young, Donald (USA)
82 Klahn, Bradley (USA)
89 Sock, Jack (USA)
97 Russell, Michael (USA)
100 Smyczek, Tim (USA)

The sad thing is you have only two in the top 70. This must be an all time low.

And Ryan Harrison, who was up to 43 in 2012, is now #121

Cheers
