no he has not..as we know the official atp rankings update every monday..the live rankings are handy for seeing who goes where with a few wins during a tourney, but not official. so officially its as if tsits few days at no3 rank never happened.

rank charts are a mess with covid points and moved/cancelled events anyway.

My peeps tell me that Rafa has to win both DC and Toronto or whatever the Rogers Cup is just to maintain #3 seed at US Open

But pretty soon, doesn't it start to come back to normal? Meaning, if you didn't play last year, the points come off? Who knows, though.

FedEx ATP Ranking Points will be added and dropped per traditional methodology beginning August 23
( the rankings after the 2021 Western and Southern Open In Cincinnati)
This was from the ATP.

The details are more complicated than that. Cincy 2021 marks the beginning of return to normalcy. Complete normalcy will happen only be Cincy 2022. Interested folks can read about it here.

Rafa's current ranking points include 2000 points for winning the 2019 USO (they are using the best score from the past two years of the same event - one of many pandemic adjustments). As a result, Rafa is defending 2000 points at this years USO, even though he is not the defending champion. As a result, it appears that if he loses out fairly early at this year's USO his ranking may fall down to 8 (and possibly even below 8).

Rafa's current ranking points also includes 1000 points from Toronto (which he won in 2019 and which was cancelled in 2020). But, it is not clear (to me) as to whether those 1000 will come of after this year's Toronto event or they will use the "best of" model.

Bottom line is that ranking woes are going to affect not just Federer, but also Ralph, when normalcy slowly starts returning from after Cincy 2021.

I hope that’s the extent of the drop. He has the record for the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10: 827 and counting. Approximately 16 straight years in the Top 10. That’s a record which probably won’t be broken for a long time, because it would require consistent success beginning at an age much younger than we’ve seen for decades, and continuing into their mid-30s.

I doubt Rafa is worried about that record at this point in his career... not the boogyman or you

Rafa has fallen to #4 from #3 when the new list came out on Aug. 9th.

He could possibly fall down one more spot before USO begins which would put him at a serious disadvantage draw wise.

Sasha is the only one with a realistic chance of overtaking Rafa and so Nadalites who specialize in voodoo dolls should know now who to target.

Too bad Djoker is out, he went too wide on the Olympics. He had to finish one more ATP No.1 at end of the year.

With Novak skipping IW's, he's putting himself in jeapardy of losing the YE #1 ranking! Thank goodness Daniil has a ton of points to defend thru the YEC/WTF! Hopefully Nole gets some rest, but gets back on court to make sure he acquires that 7th YE #1 to set himself apart form Fedal!:star: :-)2
