Thank you! Rafa, his fans, and handlers need to stop the BS! Rafa's summer and fall have always been marginal; hence just 3 USO's and no YEC's!  :ptennis:

I wouldn't call that "marginal" - 3 USOs is still pretty damn good, not to mention the handful of Masters he's won in the fall.

The more ardent fans of the Holy Trinity all have their annoying excuse narrative:

Rafatards: "The only reason he didn't win every single Slam is because of injury."
Fedtards: "The match is always on his racket; if he loses, something was off."
Noletards: "Better at his peak than Rafa or Fed - the H2H!"

All three have a glimmer of truth, but are mostly false. IMO.

For someone talking about him being a GOAT, "it's marginal!" He's had some awful upsets over the years at Wimbledon and the USO! He only won this past USO due to such an easy draw! Come on you know this already! Of Fedalovic, Rafa's been so up and down compared to the other 2! Injuries can't explain it all and even if it did, who cares? He has 10 FO's which comprises most of his highlights while the other players have much more balanced resumes! Again, we've already gone over this! Rafa's the clay GOAT at best and that's the end of my rant!

I hear you, Fiero. Rafa has some tarnish on his GOAT armor. He is the clay GOAT, and i would say the "specialist GOAT." But his lopsided resume will also put some question about his overall GOATness, even if he were to win 5 more RGs.

This is simply not true. He lost his ranking because Roger had better results since after clay season last year.

The 840 points Rafa lost due to withdrawing with injury at the Ao really had a lot to do with it. Even if Fed wins Rotterdam and Dubai Rafa is still just ahead of Fed. Fed can't earn any points during I.W and Miami and if he doesn't play the clay season again he can't really gain many points until the NA Hc season. Sure Fed has had great results but you have to admit he got lucky with Rafa getting injured and dropping a ton of points in Melbourne.

If Rafa had such an easy draw at the Uso what does that say about Fed losing to the easy opponent Rafa beat in the SF!!!

Also who cares about a player getting injured really? Tennis is just a game never nice to see any athlete get injured or ill

I'm confused. On the one hand we shouldn't care about injury, but then Rafa lost his ranking because of injury? Or are you saying we should ONLY care about injury if it's Rafa?

Having just read my post back, I can see why it's confusing, my post looks like I'm saying who cares about a player getting injured really? But the who cares was quoting Fiero and the really I'm saying Really? As in really you can have that who cares if somebody is injured attitude. Hope that makes sense?

Lol! Ok understood.

For the record I'm generally not that sympathetic if a player gets injured. It's sports after all. The ones which are pure misfortune like Rafa's appendicitis, or Roger's mono, or Roger's damaging his knee giving his kids a bath. Those are unlucky. But if you get injured on the court? That's just sports, and most likely your mechanics leaving you vulnerable to injury. Take how Roger arches his back when he serves.

This, again, is based on the assumption that Rafa would have beaten Cilic if he hadn't pulled up lame.

Also, remember that points go back one calendar year. It isn't just the AO.

And yes, Roger is likely to lose #1 unless he repeats both wins at the Sunshine Double. But then he's also likely to re-take #1 just by default during clay season, unless Rafa can repeat his results from last year.

Either way, Roger is probably going to be in a better position to go after YE1 this year than he was last.

And Roger was clearly playing hurt at USO last year or does it only count if you withdraw from the tournament? The USO is what led to Nadal holding the #1. If you're going to say Rafa surely beats Cilic from 2 sets to 1 up and 4-1 down in the fourth then we can say a healthy Roger beats 2nd/3rd tier Del Po like a drum in the QF last year.

Not to rejoice at Rafa's expense; But, a statement of fact is that Roger will now lead Rafa by 600 going into IW. Considering Roger is defending his title and Rafa a meagre 90 points, Rafa will actually lead by 310 points, once you remove last year's IW points for both.
So, Roger needs to outperform Rafa by 310 points at IW to retain #1 ranking immediately after the end of IW. This would require one
of the following.

1. Roger wins IW, does not matter what Rafa does.
2. Roger reaches final at IW and Rafa loses in QF or before.
3. Roger reaches semifinal at IW and Rafa loses his first or second match.

If Roger does not reach semifinals, he will lose #1 ranking, even if Rafa does not play in IW.

Did someone say that the ATP doesn't update the rankings until after Miami? Either way we're talking Rafa +710 for both, which means Roger needs to accrue at least 710 points in both to stay at #1 after. If he wins at least one and does well in the other and Rafa doesn't play, he could have a 500-1300 point lead going into clay season, which should be enough to coast with.

As far as race to London after 2 months, Roger leads the pack, while Nadal is ranked 21. Although is very early, I predict Nadal will not end this season ranked #1, because he had a subpar start.

If Federer has close to the year he had last year, he likely will end up year number one for this calendar year. He is undefeated so far this year and I expect him to do quite well at IW.
