Well we know that won't last long! Almost 20 years ago, the press and tennis fans would muse about Hewitt being #1 as a kid because he would win an event or 2 early on before the Australian Open!  :banghead: :cuckoo:  :ptennis:

Hewitt was number 1 for 2 years though.

Lleyton was #1 for 80 weeks, which is something less than 2 years, but I take the point.

I hope these people understand I was talking about some fans musing about him being #1 on the ATP points list in the late 90's just because he won an event or 2 before the Australian Open! I feel like I'm losing it when people don't get me! Shhheeeshhhh! :rolleyes:

Not to steal your thunder, @herios, but it is worth mentioning that regardless of the outcome of the final, Marin Cilic will reach a new career high on Monday, as #3 in the world.

H Chung is ranked 29. He should go much higher during the clay season, barring injury.

After complaining about hard courts, Nadal is playing in Mexico which is a HC tournament. I assume he is doing this to prolong his time ranked one? Because if he is tempted by money, he is beyond foolish.

It's foolish either way, but that's how Rafa rolls IMO! It bothers him that he has never been able to hold onto the top ranking for any length of time due to injury or just getting beat by Fedovic!   :ptennis:

Do you expect him to opt out of the rest of HC season? We haven't heard anything to think that his injury is serious, so I expect he's going to want to compete at IW and Miami, so why not Acapulco - its a month away.

He'll probably skip one of them; maybe IW IMO! It's Miami that he's never won IIRC! :lol3:  :yesyes:  :ptennis:

Reason why not is that the more he plays on HC, the worse his knees will get. Even if feeling well now, the pounding of each match aggravates his condition. He should save himself for important HC tournaments or skip them altogether to maximize his chances of staying fit for clay.

Besides hating his guts, Rafa does this to himself working so hard to beat any and all players; even if not in the top 100! It's his own fault for not cutting points off when he has all kinds of opportunities to shorten these matches! He's a moron; esp. when we keep hearing how fabulous his volleys are from the commentators! :nono:  :cuckoo:  :ptennis:

Question for all those who are strong in mathematical ranking scenarios! Federer is 1,000 points, give or take, behind Nadal. How many points does Rafa get for being quarterfinalist? If Roger wins, I know he adds 2000 points. How far will Roger be behind Rafa (assuming he wins in this scenario) after the points for winning and being finalist last year come off in a few days?

This was discussed in another thread - one I started about the quest for #1. Roger will be 155 points behind.
