I've said before that 17 is not that high of a total in this era

You should be able to see what Im implying without that response especially given that you agree it's easier to get slams in bunches in this era. Of course 17 is a lot, it is the record, my point is that it will not prove to be an astronomical number many think and part of that is due to the era we are in. Rafa has a very good chance to break it and if not I see that total being eclipsed within 15-20 years

This ignores the fact that the tour is so demqnding nowadays, as well as how fierce competition at the top is, in addition to the fact that surfaces playing more like each other means players are more consistent at every slam, which makes it all the more difficult. Hence my astonishment at your statement. Standards have gotten absurd if winning 17 slams can be diminished, for ANY reason.

you have to know general darth.

he is terrified of nadal. so he is preparing himself for it.

this crazy statement of his justifies it. now he thinks any damn fool can win 17 slams.

that belittles roger to no end.

roger and nadal are the among the greatest of the greatest to have ever played the game.

nobody is ever going to get at that many slams going forward except for these two.

the sport is so much more demanding today and becoming more and more demanding with each passing month.

if it was that easy then we would have had quite a few people sitting on calendar year slams. all 4 of them.

My point stands, of course 17 is an outstanding amount, it is the most to date, but of Roger's records it will be one of the easiest to break. Surfaces playing more alike means the best baseliner on one is often the best baseliner on them all and everyone plays from the baseline. Given that fact it is easier to get slams in bunches. It is not easier to become the best player in the world which is what CD is foolishly thinking my point is.

I did say clay warrior in 4.

I also said that nadal is simply better than nole.

I hope this win establishes that fact once and for all.its the totality of nadal`s domination of ALL top 30 players on all surfaces that makes nadal simply better than his peers.

and they do play tennis on clay last time I checked. in fact more tennis and more varied tennis is played on clay than any other surface.

that is why it is so hard to win a match on clay.

just ask all those who never won RG. guys like Sampras, newcombe, Connors, and johnny mac and countless other all times greats never won a single RG crown.

roger Federer himself said a few years ago that the only way he was ever going to win the RG crown was if nadal was somehow not there.

at any rate did I mention that I am not happy with the clay warrior?

lets just say it worked out for the best. he could have easily injured his knee again.

how many times has that happened already?

I believe that this is his greatest victory. he really needed this to make his own argument as the greatest of all time.

that case became even more clear now: he has a winning record against ALL of the top 30 players.

and he has now defeated nole 22 times. that is not easy to do.

nole was sensational today after the first set once he got going. nole hit around 18 winners in that 3rd set alone and lost the set anyway. that is called nadal imposing his will no matter what.

nadal just found a way to impose his will on nole.

3 weeks ago he was a clown who would lose 2 and 1 to Nole in Canada and should skip every HC tournament. Now you are beating your chest and acting like you're a genius...priceless

I thought you were going to take up bass fishing tournaments by now. they are far simpler to follow.

you picked nole to win that match in montreal too.

in fact the whole planet--- except for the few nadal fanatics---picked nole to win that match.

do you want to laugh at Sampras and lendl too.

they said that murray was the man to beat at the u.s. open.

and then nadal changed the equation after getting some matches under his belt at montreal and cincy.

and his confidence grew.

calm down.

I am far more objective than anybody you have ever seen and known.

and once nadal changed the equation, I said countless time here that nadal got exactly the right draw and that he was going to take the u.s. open.

I doubt the end result would have been different with another draw. Yes, it was an incredibly easy path to the final, but who could he have played that would have eliminated him? The only threat to him was the guy he played -- and beat -- in the final, once you take everybody's form into account (ie, Murray was just not playing good enough to have beaten Nadal).

RE: Rafael Nadal : The Secret of His Greatness Revealed

lets take a moment and revisit the u.s. open final.

I was reading somewhere at another site that people continue to cling to the idea that nole is better than nadal and that he simply got lucky. some said that nole just gifted him that 3rd set.

it is not that simple. one man came to win yesterday. just as one man came to win at Wimbledon.

these two players (rafa and andy) were just not going to be denied.

nadal would have won the 5th set yesterday. and probably with a score of 6-0. nole ran out of gas in the 4th set.

he gave his all yesterday and he went as far as he could. he was starting to tire out there both physically and mentally. also as I said, I saw that look in nadal`s eyes at cinci. he was clearly on a quest with the way he was going about his business. all he needed was the right draw at the u.s. open and he got that.

now about the match yesterday:

nole had 19 more winners because he was going for more. in fact he was forced to go for broke and he did. that should explain his 53 unforced errors.

now mind you, nadal did not really play his very best. nadal could have really destroyed him yesterday had he been a little bit sharper.

nadal had a game plan: it was to play a clean match with very few errors. he wanted to force nole to play high risk tennis while he employed his high percentage tennis.

nadal is simply better than nole. you don't beat somebody 22 times by accident or luck.

nadal did not hit the ball deep enough after the first set and took the match in 4 anyway. he was also not really returning well enough in the 2nd and 3rd sets. his returns started to fall short which put him in a defensive situation. his wheels had to come in play.

so his wheels, his will, and his game was good enough to get the job done yesterday. he could have really destroyed nole yesterday but he was a little bit off. it is not really his best surface anyway.

nadal only had 27 winners compared to nole`s 46.

but winners don't get you wins. stan the man had well over 50 winners and still lost the match.

its your game and how you play it in the absolute clutch situations that nets you wins.

nole knew what he was doing because that is exactly what he did at Wimbledon. he said after his loss to andy that he went for too much. he said he was not patient enough.

well andy and nadal force you to go for broke.
