RE: Poll : 2014 USO quarter : Federer vs Monfils

I read this with interest, and although I know where Front is coming from, to call a black person a monkey on these islands west of Europe would be a considerably grave offence, and crime. You hear monkey chants at football matches and the consequences are severe for the clubs. Fans hurl bananas on the pitch and the inference is clear. Calling a coloured person a monkey is maybe the oldest derogatory term in existence and who knows, it may even have originated in the British Isles.

But this confab began from a rumour of something said on an unspecified website. I think such un-linked BS should be snipped. The poster who brought this up provoked all this without having the decency to provide a link, in order to keep it honest... :nono

Yeah, it's long been known as a racial insult, and a fairly common and disgusting one at that...

It does have various meanings in the UK, but it's all about context - I can't really see it as being other than a racial slur in this scenario. IF it happened, of course.

Calling a black man a monkey is not the same as calling a white man a monkey. I can't see the former being anything other than a racial slur. That's just reality. To be honest, I don't hear many white men being called monkeys.

The constant whining about shrieking is frankly just pathetic to me, as Masha is hardly the only one doing it. But now to counter that, some came up with the degree of shrieking and a purpose of it, makes me laugh when I read it. And I did watch and do watch many matches, it doesn't bother me at all. I watch them hitting that yellow ball, if they were screaming when not hitting a ball, then it might be a different story.
The constant noise coming from various players while hitting said yellow ball is pathetic and off-putting to many people. The fact that it doesn't bother you is great for you, but for the other members of the viewing population who remember a quieter gentler playing environment, we find it difficult to manage at times.

Well I feel sorry for you if you can't manage the noise. I enjoy tennis on so many levels, with noise or without. I don't let too many things bother me, as simple as that, maybe whining is one thing that annoys me.:laydownlaughing

Besides, the point was that Masha was the only one attacked for her shrieking, when she is not the only one doing it, there are many more players that make all kinds of noise but they are not picked among your little group. In fact, there are so few players that don't make any noise. I just find it strange that people can't get used to the noise for the last 20 years since it started.:snigger

Truly ridiculous. This woman will end up spending an enormous amount of money on lawyers and other legal fees, only to walk away empty handed.

In a way, these kinds of lawsuits say more about the lawyers who agree to take them on, knowing they will make money off their clients, but have zero chance of successfully suing corporations the size of Disney.
