I've always been a very brave Murray fan. Siddy and I have been the only two Murray fans since 2009 at T4U. There are a lot of Murray fans at MW though and I believe quite a few of them are on MTF as well.

Please let them know they're welcome here.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/report-cyclist-erik-zabel-admits-140757142--spt.html

BERLIN (AP) -- Former rider Erik Zabel resigned Monday as a member of an International Cycling Union advisory panel after telling a German newspaper he used the blood-booster EPO, cortisone and other banned substances during several years of his career.

Zabel, who won 12 Tour de France stages and earned the sprinter's green jersey six times, retired in 2008. The year beforehand, the German said he briefly used EPO in 1996.

In Monday's edition of Germany daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Zabel said that was only ''a small part of the truth'' and that he instead engaged in doping for ''many years.''

Zabel was quoted as saying that he never had a ''structured doping plan.'' But he added: ''If you take it all together now - EPO, cortisone, then even blood doping - it's a whole lot.'' Last week, Zabel was mentioned in a French senate report to fight doping in sport as having tested positive for EPO at the 1998 Tour.

He offered his resignation from the sport's Professional Cycling Council to UCI President Pat McQuaid.

Zabel was among five UCI nominees to the 13-member panel, which also includes 1987 Tour winner Stephen Roche and Tour organizing chief Christian Prudhomme.

The UCI said in a statement that Zabel expressed ''deep regret for having lied for so long about taking performance-enhancing substances.''

Zabel was one my favourite riders, I used to root for him to take the green jersey (points classification) each year.

Not sure what they are going to do with the cycling honours, as it's pretty plain to see that from 91 through to the last couple of years, the vast majority were doping to some degree. It became so ingrained that I don't think they really regarded it as cheating at all.

Difficult choice for a cyclist at the time - dope and be relevant or quit the sport. Even more difficult if they have dependents awaiting the monthly pay cheque.

some say that the only way to level the playing field in cycling is to make it all legal. apparently there is no way to completely stop the doping. next generation of drugs will start becoming available in 10 years or less. there will be no way to detect those drugs.

eric zabel was one hell of a rider. I enjoyed watching him do his thing at the tour year after year. now it turns out that he had been lying and cheating all along.

the only silver lining is that the masses/public do get the best possible product in these endurance type of sports. those who cant afford it are left out of course.

Nearly all of them have been lying and cheating... the one thing that rankled with me was that the handful of clean riders were run out of the sport. Bassons is acknowledged to have ridden clean and he was forced out of the sport by Armstrong (who turned the entire peleton against him). Frankie Andreu decided he was going to stop doping, so the US Postal team didn't renew his contract. Simeoni was run out of the sport for criticising Lance's doping doctor.

I think that's why Lance was ultimately brought down - he wasn't just doping - he was bullying, influencing and ostracising good people in the sport. I don't think too many people shed tears when he was brought down.

I think it's much cleaner now - the race times in general are a lot slower than they were a few years ago, and we are seeing riders humanized - as in after one great day, they feel the effects the day after.

It will never be clean but if they can get EPO and blood doping out of the sport completely it makes a massive difference. Cyclists have been doping since way back when and it helped them, but EPO and Blood doping was a massive game changer when it arrived in the early 90s - transforming carthorses into thoroughbreds. Riders who were journeyman domestiques gaining a huge spike in performance.

excellent post baron. I think you are spot on.

lance was a big bully as it turns out. he ran one hell of a ring at the u.s. postal service team.

even his own wife had to step out from under his shadow to finally speak out against him. he probably kept her under lock and key.

I better grab some sleep.

see you all tomorrow.

post away and enjoy the forum.

CD, This is interesting, as they had cycling experts do a full analysis on stages on Alpe d'Huez over the years and took 21 big names from the sport.

Green = Clean
Yellow = Possible suspicion
Orange = Miraculous
Red = Mutant/Unbelievable

It's part of report conducted that looked at all the variables VO2 Max, Possible wattage, Career etc...

As expected, Greg Lemond is the only guy of the 21 they were certain was clean. He had the highest recorded VO2 Max of any cyclist in history.

Hello Castle,
just saw Hercs PM so I decided to join. Couldn't have done it earlier as I was on a camping trip.

I'm very 'busy' during summer, so I can't promise my full activity. I'm hardly at home.

Also, since I came here, most of you know my stand on the 'situation' at T4U and my opinion on other forums as well.
So I definitely didn't join here to talk about dramas that happened on other tennis forums.
We all move forward and one will find the way to regroup and spend quality time talking about tennis and other stuff.
t4u has been my '2nd family' ever since I joined and that will remain the same. Also I'm not here to discuss posters from other forums.

Having said that, I hope everybody moved on and let it go as this is only an internet forum.

Castle legacy hasn't been broken, as I see its still alive and well, so there's no reason to dwell in the past.

So let's have a blast :)

vamos general lugburz. glad to see you here mate.

its an honor to have you at the castle general.

you can have the same sig here that you have at tennis4u. it is an awesome sig.

you wont believe the number of folks here that love tommy haas here.

spot on general. lets move forward and ponder the fascinating possibilities that our future holds for all of us.

by the way tommy is an action this week. that dude is not messing around. he wants to be properly prepared for the u.s. open.

how was your camping trip general lugburz? I used to do a fair amount of camping, hiking, and biking but then my brother and my friends got married and started raising families and stuff. we used to make the time to go to the mountains. we had our spots in north carolina and also in and around the smoky mountains. we also would venture out to big bend national park in texas , Durango (Colorado), and new mexico.

now we all ride bikes on the road.

good to see you as well general Herc!

I'll look into sig later.

Yeah I'm all fired up for some action in Washington. No Fog in the draw so Tommy is safe hahaha

Jokes aside, gonna be hard to defend the final here. It all comes down to how well Tommy took the break since his two losses against on fire Fognini.

Should be interesting...

fascinating stuff baron. keep it coming.

so lemond is the one. his bikes are fairly popular here. one of my friends owns a bike shop in Louisiana . he sells a boat load of lemond bikes.

I thought big mig and armstrong had the highest vo2max but evidently lemond surpassed them all.

in our sport it was borg who was said to have a very level of natural vo2max. his resting pulse rate was as low as 35. nadal did too when he was a little younger.

it declines as you get older obviously so you have start training harder and harder to maintain it.

anyway so this is quite interesting. doping is just a part and parcel of elite tour de france cyclists and has been for the last 30 years or so.

fog had to be on fire general. still I figured tommy would get by him the 2nd time around. I was not able to see the match.

something was not quite clicking for tommy that day. lets hope it all comes together on the north American hard court circuit.

he did well at the Miami masters. I am sure he will be confident of his chances on the hard courts now.

general lugburz I will be glad to visit your thread at tennis4you from time to time and contribute as much as I can.

so we will have both places to keep in touch.

and please feel free to fire up a tommy haas thread here if you wish. you are going to get plenty of support here.

To be honest, it's gonna be hard keeping two same threads at different forums. I can hardly do it on one.
Over the years I've been updating it much closely with much more infos and whatnot.
Now I'm only putting some pics and match activities on his current tours. There are still people printing it, so I'm happy to be able to provide something at one place, even if its not much.

Looking forward to meet some Tommy fans here by the way ;)

hamburg is quite a beautiful city. I have been to Frankfurt but never to hamburg:

I was just checking your thread for any recent tommy pictures that I might be able to use for my sports images.

look how young tommy looks. he looks younger than most 25 year olds on the tour:

baron likes roger and tommy. he is also an expert on a few other sports.

I guess you can say that he is a well informed sporting man. he most definitely knows his cycling.

he posted with us at the castle there tennis4you from time to time.

by the way did you know general viruzzz? he told me yesterday that he is going to join here.

yep I remember britbox now. We talked a lot about English football and SNOOKER! So refreshing to see someone else following it.
I remember he was Williams fan and I'm more Selby fan. They played the final a week ago or so, and it was very close final.

Also yep, I know viruzzz, cool bloke ;)

We both play guitar I believe.

and then we get our last slam of the year. I can hardly wait to see it all unfold.
