Hey Enrique,

I have moved the Other Sports section up so it now sits next to the Castle. You will be able to fire up threads in there.

Hey Britbox! Thanks for creating a thread but the "Other Sports" Section is a little bit unorganized with all the threads.

Don't you think a "Sports Bar" concept in the Castle Chat area fits perfect? It's just a suggestion mate.

I'll see what the other admins think. My main thoughts being that until we have a bigger user base then we might be diluting things too much if we have similar topics in different places.

Hi Javi,

I've organized the Sports section a little better, so the main sports chat threads are stickies at the top.

Thanks a lot bro! Looks so much better and organized now.

I'll definitely go and post there from now on!
Thanks for your effort :D

what do you guys make of this deal?

A podium kiss in Moscow has led to further attention being shone on Russia's harsh new homosexuality laws.

Russian runners Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firova kissed on the podium after winning the 4x400 meter relay at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow. According to Sky News, sources in the Russia team camp are downplaying the incident, saying it was simply a celebration and there were no politics involved. Gay Star News, however, points out that the kiss could theoretically have seen the pair arrested under Russia's controversial new "gay propaganda" laws as it could be promoting homosexuality.

"what do you guys make of this deal?"

I think Russia needs to wake up, and realize it's the 21st century. And I hope those women aren't arrested.

affirmative general tented.

I am not sure what to make of it. it may just have been a friendly/affectionate kiss.

arresting them is a very bad idea.

there are far worse crimes out there than 2 people showing some affection.

some women are like that. they are more affectionate than the others.

General CD,

I don't care why those women were kissing. If it was a spontaneous act of celebration, fine. If they're lovers/girlfriends, fine. If they were bringing attention to Russia's draconian homophobic laws, fine.

I just don't want them -- or any others -- to be arrested for being gay, doing something which could be interpreted as their being gay, or speaking out in favor of gay rights.

It's pathetic that we're still even debating this issue.

I hear ya general.

they should leave those poor women alone.

guys once we blast past 5000+ posts and 50,000 views, I think we will have achieved what I call a bit of a critical mass.

we may start to gather a little bit of momentum.

don't be surprised if the castle blasts off one day with the right people here.

it works as javi and I have shown the world in the past when you have the right people and when we are willing to do the right thing.

To be honest we're debating something that hasn't happened - nobody has been arrested and I doubt it would happen. The Russians haven't criminalized homesexuality, they've made laws about promoting it to minors - at least that's what my understanding is. There are countries with far more severe approaches - where homosexuality is a criminal offence and/or subject to severe corporal punishment. Russia should be way down the list if people are looking at civil liberties. Quatar, who are going to be hosting the FIFA world cup have far more draconian rules in place.

Sure, nothing has happened. I was addressing CD's comment "arresting them is a very bad idea."

The Russian laws and their possible impact on the Winter Olympics is clearly what made this photo of the runners newsworthy. Yes, there are countries with worse laws (the US doesn't top the list of countries with impeccable records on civil liberties, either), but Russia has put itself in the spotlight because of laws passed, and comments made by politicians with the Olympics on the horizon. And just because there are countries with worse laws doesn't mean Russia gets a bye.

The real problem here is the IOC, and what, if anything, they're going to do.

The IOC will just get a few weak public assurances trotted out to cover their backs. These organisations don't care tuppence about anything other than money.

johnny mac says that andy murray is now the hunted one.

nobody knows where the bullshit starts and where it ends with johnny mac.

I think its nole who is the hunted one. not one but 2 players are hunting him down.

johnny mac better start reading the castle here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/23761928

US Open: Andy Murray a 'hunted' player, says John McEnroe

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray must get used to being "the hunted" as he prepares to defend his US Open title, says John McEnroe.

The American, a four-time winner at Flushing Meadows, believes Murray faces a different pressure as reigning champion when the tournament begins on Monday.

"On the one hand he's done it, so that's amazing," said McEnroe.

“People are going to be gunning for him even more. I think he's found that a little bit since playing Wimbledon.”

"On the other hand, you're the hunted more than you were in the past."

Murray, 26, has reached the final of the last four major tournaments in which he has competed, but has not made it past the quarter-finals in his two events since his victory at Wimbledon.

He remains in with a chance of ending the year as the world number one but slipped behind the in-form Rafael Nadal to third in the rankings on Monday.

McEnroe, 54, managed to follow Wimbledon victories with success at the US Open twice during his career, in 1981 and 1984, and both times ended the year as the world number one.

"This is the first shot where Murray's got a legitimate chance to finish number one and be number one for the year if he can get two majors," added McEnroe, now a regular on the ATP Champions Tour that culminates at the Royal Albert Hall in December.

"So that's a different type of approach and people are going to be gunning for him even more. I think he's found that a little bit since playing Wimbledon."

McEnroe also believes the fact that Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open, Nadal won the French Open and Murray won Wimbledon, means the US Open could effectively decide who has been the best player of 2013.

"There's three different guys, obviously Rafa, Novak and Andy, that have won the three majors," said McEnroe.

"All three of them feel that if they win the US Open - I think - that they're going to deserve to be called number one for the year."

The US Open has been disrupted by bad weather for the last five years, with the men's final being postponed to a third Monday on each occasion, and McEnroe has welcomed the news of plans for a roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"I don't want to say too little too late because I don't think it ever is," said McEnroe.

"I would fall under the category of better late than never. It's been five years in a row, which has hurt the ratings and hurt, I think, our sport a little bit, that our final was not played on the Sunday.

"Clearly that's bad luck, but at the same time the USTA [United States Tennis Association] makes a lot of money at this event, it's a huge event, and they have the resources, so I'm glad they seem to have finally figured out a way to put a roof over a huge stadium."

McEnroe tends to just blow with the wind. He also deals in superlatives and hands them around like cherry cakes. Everything must be a "classic" or "the best of all time" or "best ever seen".... nothing is simply good, very good - it must hyped up to be the best ever.

I guess when they are working with networks, it's all about hyping the event up.

borg is a buffoon when it comes to straight tennis talk.

I guess he was just dying a few deaths a day watching nadal declare war on his records.

he was wishing and hoping. he should have come clean. he knew nadal had no equals on this planet on the red clay. hell nadal usually beats you on clay at just 60% capacity.

I think his first clue should have been the fact that nadal wins 96% -97% of ALL his matches on the red clay for nearly a decade. in all his life, he has lost just 1 best of 5 sets match on the red clay.

becker is funny but he too cant call it properly. somebody buy him a dress with the way he changes his mind every 20 minutes.

I like henman and rafter. now they are bright.

I also believe that andy murray is one of the brightest ones out there. he is the one to listen to when he talks.

he is objective and he is articulate.

Rafael Nadal turned a red-hot summer into a chance for a record payday at the 2013 US Open. Nadal won the events in Montreal and Cincinnati to claim the 2013 Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge. With a victory at the 2013 US Open, he would earn $3.6 million – $2.6 million as the US Open champion and $1 million in bonus prize money as the Series champion – which would set a tennis record for a single-day payout.

Nadal, who rose from No. 4 to No. 2 in the world on the strength of his two summer hard-court titles, also won the Emirates Airline US Open Series men’s crown in 2008. He joins Andy Roddick (2005-06) and Serena Williams (2011, 2013) as the only players in the history of the Series to win multiple titles. The Series began in 2004. The 2010 US Open champion is 15-0 on hard courts this year, having also won the tournament title in Indian Wells, Calif., in March. He officially clinched the 2013 Series title when John Isner, currently in second place in the Bonus Challenge standings, pulled out of the Winston-Salem Open on Monday with a hip injury.

The top three men’s and top three women’s finishers in the Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge have the opportunity to win bonus prize money at the 2013 US Open. The Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge has resulted in some of the largest paychecks in tennis history, with Roger Federer winning $2.4 million as the US Open and Series champion in 2007 and Kim Clijsters taking home $2.2 million in both 2005 (as the US Open and Series champion) and 2010 (as the US Open champion and Series runner-up).
