...and we're all square. Agreed Darth, that point by Copil was pretty damn impressive. Fed needs to keep the pressure on here. He's been making Copil work hard to hold.

Wow, that is a brutal game, all 4 challenges go against him. Talk about a game of millimeters.

Copil's inexperience at this level is magnified.
He is in his second career final and he lost the first one too to Basic, who is a no name himself
Too much to ask to keep his cool in such a final, against Roger in Basel of all places.

Got to give him some kudos though man... he's no spring chicken and he's come right through from qualies.

Gutsy effort more than anything, upped the ante after 4-1 in the second set. I highly doubt he plays Paris. I don't give him much of a shot at YEC, he has to play a lot better to even make it out of whatever group he's in.

Of course, this was his best week of his life.
He has beaten 2 top 10 players the same week, being ranked 93. He played way above his level.

It's the usual thing! Copil has all the ability and probably played better overall, just couldn't finish! We saw it last week against Simon who made Roger look bad, but even 2 breaks up wasn't enough dropping that 1st set IIRC! Most get nerves and I understand it, but the entire "Next Gen" has been like this; accommodating the stars of the game at every turn! No lead is safe when it comes to going against the elites of the game! It's obvious Nole's been the most vulnerable where his own nerves may come to the fore when ahead! Heaven knows he's made his job a lot harder by not closing out matches in a timely fashion in the past! Congrats to Fed; getting to 100 tourn. wins is really something! Few have gotten there! I thought the next era should have started by now and they would've stopped this accomplishment, but "what're ya gonna do!?" :nono:

Congrats Fed for #99, didn't look likely. This title in some ways feels a little like #18. The way Fed is playing I'll gladly take #100 at Rotterdam or Stuttgart next year.

I only surfed by periodical, but is this the 1st qualifier to make a final of any sort? I've seen LL's make the SF of a Masters within the last year or so! That's the kind of thing I thought should happen more, but we all well know, with these ATG's, it's less likely to happen! Being struck by lighting would have better odds over a real announcing of the next great player! Was hoping with Grigor way back when, then Zverev; both weak mentally and it'll take Sascha a little more seasoning to do more than take the occasional Masters! :nono:  :cuckoo:

Good to see him get that #99 monkey of his back.
Was playing his C-level game all week.
Possibly Bercy.next.hopefully does well there.

I still can't believe he even got to the SF playing like that; even on his home court in Basel He had a lot of luck going for him!

a little bit yeah but he gritted out the tougher matches not many playing his regular first strike tennis

Fed wins his 99th career title!

.........and the 9th in Basel!

I did not see the match live. But, this is surely a miracle considering he was sucking from beginning to end in Basel except for the first 1.5 sets against the coin thrower.

#100 at AO would be nice; but, will it happen with revived Nole?

faker is too tough now for Fed to win another slam. If Fed's going to win another slam it will have to be Wimbledon.

Congratulations to Federer on beating the amazingly difficult opponent in a final, the one and only Marius Copil. :good: B-)
