I drove to Stanford yesterday to watch Cirstea vs Ciby. The reason Cirstea got bagelled was because she has a low tennis IQ. She goes for winners when out of position instead of playing smart defense. She has a big game and can unload when she can set her feet, but makes error after error when running to hit.

I pick Aga for the title. She has the highest tennis IQ on tour. Maybe second highest when Martina comes back.

You covered it for me! The tennis IQ has dropped precipitously since Martina retired with only Aggie holding the fort on smarts and court sense! She doesn't have any power, her serve can be attacked, but at her best, she'll beat players she shouldn't because they're just not intelligent on the court! I've been railing about mindless aggresion for years, but only players like Hingis and Radwanska prove my point again and again!

Stanford 2013 Finals

Aggie is 4-0 against Domi
Domi is not about to turn that tide around.
Aggie in 2 tight sets is my call.

I watched the 2nd set yesterday between Hampton and Aggie, no contest. Aggie as many suggested has a superior IQ on the court, will disguise that drop shot when no one expects it and that happened against Hampton. Hampton pounds the ball but was out of her league against the polished Aga.:clap

Today's brand of tennis both men and women, is confined to baseline slamming of the ball over and over, except for the very occasional "smart" player like Aggie and once in awhile I have seen Maria Kirilenko come to the net and surprise her opponent. To cover matches with endless pounding of the ball, quite frankly can become very monotonous. You shoot the same shot over and over again, with little variety, but that seems to be the nature of the game right now. I hope it will change very soon, otherwise I feel spectators will get bored. I love the game immensely but let's have more Aggies, and Martina's please.

Stanford 2013: Champion

Lil' Domi suprised everyone, including me, and won Stanford!

201307281729629793406-p2@stats.com.jpg

It was a tough 3 set battle that included a second set come-back by her littleness.
Final score 3-6 6-4 6-4 in a two and a half hour match.

No doubt, those 5 clay tournament wins, including the French Open this year speak for themselves.

Special, I totally agree...Serena's tennis IQ is mixed with power and precision.
:clap Also, congratulations to Cibby; great win over Aggy!!!

Congrats to Cibulkova. I did not think she could pull off the upset based on their history. She lost o and o to Aga the last time they met. What a confidence booster this must be.

On to Carlsbad where I hope to see a healthy Vika.

Cibby plays well in the West Coast..for some reason Aggy seems to be slumping and maybe a change in coaching might do the trick...

Radwanska outplaying the more powerful Jamie Hampton at Bank Of The West semi! If Aggie can do it, Martina can come back and do it! I can't wait!

You saw what happened when she met real power, didn't you?? There was nothing Aggie could do against Cibby once Cibby stopped making silly UFEs. Well done!!

As for Hingis: No power, old lungs and bad feet :D She wouldn't stand a chance against the athletic heavy hitters!! Sorry, that ship sailed in 2001 :nono Get off it!!

Pocket Rocket

PS: I love neat nicknames, thank you

Yep that's one powerful little lady. She hits that ball harder than anyone on the WTA. I also notice how Aggie has improved her first serve.

In that case then Aggie should have had quite a few majors and more trophies to show for her tennis IQ. Being a backboard does not give make you have a high tennis IQ. To have a high tennis IQ you must have a combination of different techniques and incorporate those techniques in your matches and win those matches and not just getting being a backboard. As I said before just watch Serena when she plays and then come back and tell me if anyone on the WTA can match her IQ. I know people do not want to give her her due for her intelligence on the tennis court, but they don't really have to because her record speaks for itself.

Aga defends and defends...if she was smart she should have beaten Sabine in that third set at Wimbledon.A smart player uses their best attribute win...Serena has a good serve and is smart to know thats her moneymaker right there,at the end of the day its about making a living and getting titles.Aga claimed to own Bartoli 7-0 but Marion with all her antics won Wimbledon....

I agree Aga has no chance against a power hitter who can execute, but how often do they play at the top of their game? Aga has way more than defense. Woz is a defender. Kerber a defender. Aga defends, but also has huge variety and constructs smart points. Ciby won because she was playing near her best. A heavy hitter playing at that level can crush someone with little power regardless of high tennis IQ. This is why Aga routinely loses to the big three but usually beats the rest of the field.

Who has higher tennis IQ? Serena or Aga? Take away Setena's power and have them play a match. That would be interesting. I am not a fan or anti-fan of either so do not take this to be an insult to Serena. Just wanting to get insights from people who understand the game better than I do.

Okay, if we take away Serena's power, we'll have to take away Aggie's ability to run!! Doesn't sound right, does it
