Someone in the WTA forum mentioned not liking my including an extra space between each line, but I think it's easier to read this way. Any preference?

Looks much better with a line to me! Why would you want it all scrunched up together? Women! :p

Exactly. I think it's easier to scan it visually with the extra spaces.

Regardless, Cilic is gone in the first match. he hasn't been sharp since Flushing Meadows. Nor has Dr Evil, so this result came outta the blue...

Wawrinka post Australian Open win

Cilic post U.S. Open win

Virgin slam win letdowns....

Yeah, even the great Pete suffered from this, though he was only 19, in fairness...

Exactly. Has anyone ever done any study on that??

Paging El Dude ... white courtesy phone ...

[I think it's an interesting topic, too.]

Me either. Go figure. Some Wafa fans hate knows no bounds. You dispute the definition of the slang word "spanked" and welcome to World War 3! Someone else agrees with you and supposedly they're sticking up for you when in fact it's 'cos both of us never heard anyone regard spanked as simply winning, despite how close.

You never had a spanking session that went all the way? :snigger

You should adopt "My h8ers r My Motiv8ers" as your new signature... :snigger

Don't mind me, funny mood tonight... :laydownlaughing

I have heard some people even like being spanked ;)

In between the juvenile bickering about what "spanked" means, an interesting point was raised in the previous page regarding maiden slam winners. I believe I read somewhere that Murray, after winning his first major in New York 2012, was the first man ever to reach the final of his next grand slam (AO 2013) - is that at all true or do I misremember?

Connors won Wimbledon in 1974, then the USO that year. Oz was played later in the year, so he won his first three, I think. But something about this feels wrong to me, even though it looks right...

EDIT: just checked, and the 1974 Oz was played from the last two weeks of 1973 - except it ended on 1st January 1974! So then Connors didn't play the French, and won Wimbledon. So technically, the FO wasn't his next slam, since he missed it, but calendar-wise, it was the next one. Maybe that's Andy's achievement?

It looks like Connors won his first slam in Australia - a tournament that ran from December 1973 to January 1974. He then skipped the French before winning Wimbledon and US Open.

Clearly, then, he not only reached the final of HIS next slam after winning a maiden title, he won the next two, in fact.

So if you're looking for a guy who reached the final of THE slam after winning his first title, Connors doesn't fit the criteria because he didn't play the next major after winning in Australia. Perhaps, then, Murray was the first man to achieve this, but this is a minor technicality. The point of such a statistic really is to underline a player's ability to shake off the "maiden slam title" hangover and reach the final of their next one. Murray managed this in Australia 2013, thirty-nine years after Jimmy Connors went one, then two better, by winning his next two majors.

Good Grief.. How is spanked a slang.. Dude.. I thought you said that you were a ladies' man.. You mean to tell me even during "happy time" you havent heard spanked. You two are just ridiculous.. you two carry on like to old cackling hens..All this over a word SPANKED, its has got to be some church bibles study groups, feed the homeless shelters or volunteer work that is needed instead of trying to engage in competitive banter with me. Here is what I have for the two of you and whomever else you would like to invite

The context you're describing it is not the original meaning of the word and has evolved into slang over the years. So yes, it's a slang term to say we spanked you in a team event since you didn't smack their asses in doing so which is the original meaning of the word. The spanking you referred to above is the proper meaning of the word. To smack someone on the arse.

I have traveled through many parts of South East Asia,I too picked up a stomach virus, got over it in a few days.I really feel it has to do with the air pollution, which can carry different types of virus, also change in climate, changed in food can also be a problem.Stick to filtered water, which is a must, when you are over seas.Maybe I can send some ginger to Rafa ASAP,which works well naturally to help stomach issues.
