Ridiculous shot from Federer there.

This won't get it done! I think these draws are too tough and Roger has to play "lights out" just to get out of the first few rounds! It was worse in Madrid, but I see the same thing happening here in Rome; Fed won't get to the QF playing like this! :cover :eyepop :popcorn  :dodgy:

Lol! Fiero you do get hysterical sometimes! :snicker

I'd say check the stats, Fiero. That was pretty good from Roger imo.

Guess the slower surface means it's easier for guys to run him left and right. The court looked pretty fast out there tonight but Cuevas was hitting lots of lines and angles. Both guys played well and if Roger lost the first set TB he mightn't have had the fight to win it in 3 imo.

That's all I'm saying! I take in consideration the level of competition as well! Do you guys really think Rafa, Nole, or Andy will have deficiencies in confidence and allow Roger to just ROLL through them? I think not and for Roger to prove he was really ready for this tourney, he would have finished this off in a more timely fashion! Nole dropped a set yesterday, but most believe he was just looking for the extra practice since he took off last week's Masters! He's on course while Roger and Rafa are still trying to find themselves and their game! :dodgy: :p

The more realistic outlook would be actually Roger and Rafa struggled less as they won in 2 sets :D

No shame losing a set to Almagro. Very good player on clay and he'd likely be doing better against the field if not for his foot injury. Hasn't been the same player since in terms of movement but still able to belt the ball from every angle of the court and has a killer backhand and decent serve.

Tsonga's a true head case! How could he allow Goffin to come back from 3 match points like that? I told my roomie, "this dude is no slouch; actually getting to #20 in the world!" :cover :nono

Count yourself lucky. He did it against Novak at RG too not that long ago!

I managed to watch just the last two games of Fed match. Glad he won as he needs match practice.
As per the stat, he had more winners than UFE. What is even more interesting is that he had more backhand winners than forehand winners.

I am not too worried about Anderson. Fed will take care of him.

But, I am worried about his QF no matter whether Bird or Fog is the opponent.

^ That's some horrific pusher tennis there. Ugh. Barf inducing slow. Compare that to Cuevas v Federer, 10 times the speed. Surprising to see Tsonga pushing the ball like that.

I had exactly the same feeling when I switched over to Tsonga/Goffin after Fed's match.
After Tsonga lost his game while serving for the match, I quit watching.

Good morning ya'll! I see some more interesting stuff happened over yonder in Yooroppa while I slumbered.

Nishikori struggled through that first match. I'm starting to wonder if there is another breakdown coming. Love Nishikori but he is so fraaaaaaaagile. Hope not though. The guy has a great chance to rack up some more rankings points n the next few weeks.

That was some flame-out by Dimitrov is seems. I'll have to watch the match later. F3 is playing his home Masters so you know he's fired up and maybe he's more focused than usual. But a 3-set bagel is not what Dimitrov should be doing. He should listen to nemeth's suggestions.

F3 vs. Berdych should be very interesting. Berdych's run of 10-straight QF or better finishes could be in danger.

Disappointed that Tsonga lost so early. Maybe he will be running on all cylinders by the time the U.S. Open series comes around. I really hope he's not done yet.

Did Federer play that badly? I'll have to watch this match too. But I feel Federer's got a good run in a clay tournament before we move on to grass. One thing I don't want to see is a Fed-Rafa clay court match though. Gives me indigestion.

So we have:
Isner vs. Nadal. This could be very interesting.
Ferrer My Ferrer should get through ok.
Murray shouldn't have too much trouble with Goffin.
I don't see Federer losing to Neo but guaranteeing a Federer or Nadal victory is dangerous these days.
