Yes, especially when she didn't play Rome and was saying what a struggle she had playing on clay.

Cibulkova is out, and I know that will bum you out, @britbox. Kind of me, too, though I do like Carla.

Well that was always going to be a tough match for Cibby. At least she's winning most of the matches she's supposed to win this season and winning a few more on top. She's really a Top 20 player and on the verge of getting back in there. Big progress from a ranking of 66 a few months ago.

I really like both players...they've got to be two of the smallest powerful women. Suarez-Navarro is getting long in the tooth, so I'm happy to see her progress, but I will always be pulling for Cibilkova going forward. What would you say is her best surface? Fast HC? She's got a quick arm.

I think she's a decent all court player, although perhaps surprisingly she hasn't got many results on the faster hard courts. Her best results have come on medium speed hard courts. I'll be interested to see how she does at WImbledon this year too.

The No. 1s, injuries and zebra-wear: French Open 2016 midterm grades

PARIS – We’ve had rain; we've had (mild) upsets. We’ve had cramp-gate; we’ve had lots of zebras. But it’s the absences at the 2016 that loom larger. No Roger Federer, who is convalescing his bad back, resting up for the grass. No Maria Sharapova, who awaits the disposition in her anti-doping hearing. And most shockingly: no Rafael Nadal who—after two dazzling matches—withdrew Friday with a left wrist injury.

Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated grades the campaign and the campaigners. Read more...

I am going with Sveta (fingers and other body parts crossed) she has a great game on clay, she is my Dark Horse at RG this year.........I am also going for Stosur against Halep,I had my doubts about Stosur coming into RG because she withdrew with a wrist complaint during Strasburg,I really liked her game against Lucie,Sam has a horrid record against left handers BTW.Begu and the surprise packet on clay at RG so far Radwanksa,Pironkova more suited to grass.

Sam put in a very disappointing performance against Simona in Madrid a few weeks ago. I still think Halep will cone through but probably in 3 sets.

Agree Sam did put in a disappointing performance against Halep in Madrid.seeing I now live in Sydney,Australia,I am being a tad biased and picking my Aussie:)....I have always thought Sam's game is made for clay,I was live at RG when Sam made the final against Fran, she defeated Serena,Henin I thought she was a special to win, though she just froze,Fran deserved her win.

I had totally forgot that Svitolina is being coached by Justine Henin. Should add a little more spice to her encounter with Serena tomorrow. Still can't see a problem for Serena despite the two doubles matches today.

I'm pleased for Muguruza, too, and would like her to go deep here, if not even to win it all.
