I'm hearing Serena has a cold. Didn't she have a cold during the last couple rounds of the Australian Open as well? I heard Monfils had a cold too so something must be going around but I wonder why these players can't take better care of themselves during such an important time. Unavoidable I guess. But still...

Sharapova and Gourgeous had colds as well. Both have been seen coughing and blowing their noses. It happens and maybe it's allergies w/ the pollen in spring, not sure. But if you have a cold, you can't take any of that over-the-counter medicine because it's against the anti-doping policy. All you can do is old-school home remedies and get alot of rest (which is hard to do in a slam).

That's true. Just seems to happen way too often.

Down here in Barcelona allergens are really bad this year. I could literally see the pollen floating in the air. I would guess its the same in Paris. Still, its not an excuse. I don't think that's what is going on with Serena. I don't think she prepared properly for clay. I think players are always going to prone to a cold or flu because when you run your body down that much your immune system isn't exactly at its strongest.

I think (am hoping) Sloane has finally righted her ship. She's played beautifully so far this French, and win or lose today, I am hoping we are beginning to see the promise of another US women's star coming to fruition. With Venus on her way out the door, and Serena on the downside of her glorious career, we need some younger players like Madison K and Sloane to cheer for.

Yeah I kind of think it's time to start asking if Sloane really is a new Sloane. She has always had a lot of motivation at slams but I'm actually more impressed this year by her play at non-slam events. She used to go to them without caring if she won a single match. She reached the finals in Strasbourg and had some great results elsewhere. Seems like Genie shouldn't have dismissed Saviano so quickly.
I don't know if it's she shouldn't have booted Saviano as much as maybe Sumyk is not a good match for her. We've seen the coaching carousel and not everyone is suited to coach everybody. The successful relationships on tour they clicked and they nurture it.

I remember seeing Sloane with Anacone last year, and it seemed she was somewhat dismissive of him, which really surprised me. Maybe she learned over the last year that she doesn't know everything, and a good coach can really help her achieve more. And Saviano is definitely a good coach - Genie is lost without him.

I'm also guessing it must be pretty chilly there (which isn't helping if you're already rundown). I've seen many players wearing long sleeves over their dresses.

Serena is not punishing that second serve enough. Sloan should not be in the high 60s on second serves won.

You better hold Serena! If you give that break back after getting it, I am personally coming to Paris and joining your team hereafter to be your motivational guru.

Oh well. I have to go to work for awhile. I'll check the scoreboard later and see if Serena can turn this one around like she did on Sat.

That was stupid of her. She could have learned a lot from him. I mean, he only coached players like Sampras and Federer, so perhaps he knows a thing or two. ;)

It really is hard to say a player can be a good player and a coach a good coach, but if there isn't chemistry there it will not work. I mean we really don't know how the coaches talk to their players or the players talk to their coaches, and new partnerships test that out. If it isn't a good match, it shows in the results. If the player or the coach is demeaning or condescending it will only work for so long.

Well no wonder Serena has 32 unforced errors and Sloane only 9 at this juncture. Clean it up Serena.

Well well well... Sloane is bringing it. I've always felt, with her speed and power she could be a natural successor to Serena. Mentality is 90% of the battle though

Serena wins set #2. Let's see what happens in set #3. This year Sloane has proven to fade in 3rd sets, so we will see what happens here.

Serena needs to be careful and not press here. If she plays solid consistent tennis, Sloane might not have it in her.
