Safarova finally beat pova...

This was a huge win for her. Well done.

It doesn't affect Serena, because we know what the outcome of that match would have been, but Serena is probably pleased nevertheless.

Always like Safarova's play too but she's often been a big choker. Glad to see she held her nerves today. She was belting winners to Sharapova's backhand.

Kvitova really lucked out with this draw, but she does have the dangerous Timea to play today who can take her out. If Kvitova makes it past that then she has the potential to play a player not even ranked in the top 90. It is hers to lose, but as we know, she is more than capable of losing it.

Safarova has been playing great tennis this year and can find herself in the final. She has a history at RG ..she eliminated Mauresmo and it was big news at the time..:popcorn.
Serena will be Serena..she has a chance of winning the whole thing.I dont think Serena considers Vika or pova as threats especially after beating them religiously.
Serena s real opponents were Capriati,Venus and Justine...the rest like Clijsters tried and usually took her to three sets and always lost. Her losses usually are to little known players...
Its interesting that Wim Fissette was coaching Clijsters when Serena had that debacle in 2009....

Well I hope we see a fresh and ready to play Serena today who takes it in straights because they have to come back and play QF tomorrow.

Do you anticipate a difficult match against Sloane?

I don't know. Serena is her own worst enemy look at round 2.

True, but I don't think she'll have a problem with Sloane. She enjoys beating her, and doing it as quickly and brutally as possible.

^I have to agree. Vika was the test, and she was forced to raise her level. She doesn't often go into reverse. It's just going to be a whole lot of pain being dished out from here on in. I expect number 20

I am taking the cautiously optimistic route with Serena. She gets weird with this slam for some reason, but if she can secure another French Open trophy, then she needs to win Wimbledon to complete another Serena Slam.

I hadn't thought of that yet. Interesting.

I think she was more stressed out at slams when she was trying to get past Chrissie and Martina's record, but now that she's done that, I think she's relaxed a bit.
