Does anyone know when was the last time Serena lost at QF or later stages in a grandslam event to a player who is not in top 10? I think the answer should be either never or more than ten years ago.

2013 AO QF. Sloane was not in the top 10 when she lost that match. In fact I don't think Sloane was even top 20.

We will see what happens, but Serena couldn't have asked for a nicer road to the final than what she just received. I hope she realizes that, and she puts everything into making sure she takes the hardware home. I mean unless Ivanovic makes it on her end, then there will be a new slam finalist. There is a lot that can happen with a slam win here: 3rd career slam, 3/4 of a way to a Serena slam, halfway to a calendar slam, #20, this win would put her above Chris and Martina, but below Steffi for career slams won, furthers her lead on number 1, helps round out her clay resume and balance out her slam wins.

I think as Serena ages that she may want to consider shifting her focus to the clay and grass as they are more forgiving. Serena has the game for clay, but she just doesn't always have the patience needed to construct points properly.
