Up next for Serena, Sloane where they played a 3 setter in Serena's favor at Indian Wells and a 2 setter in Madrid 6-4, 6-0 to Serena. I think it is going to be an interesting match. We will see what happens. I am anticipating a Serena victory and then probably playing Errani in the QF.

With her win today, Serena becomes the first woman in the open era to record 50 match wins at every slam.

^^ And this is her worst slam. What's her record at the others?

they finally put her on Lenglen hopefully Safarova will not bow down to pova as always...Safarova has been playing good this year and can win this match if she is focused

Hopefully, those numbers will be going up significantly this year especially Paris and London. I know it is a tall task, but I want another French from her before she ends her career. She is too good not to get a 3rd or even a 4th career slam. I would like another Wimbledon, but I want another U.S Open so Serena can be the sole holder of most U.S Open titles in the open era.

So far, this tournament is kind of playing out how things in Australia played out for her in terms of patterns. A straight set here and a few 3 setters there.

I know a lot has been said about that one point Azarenka had to replay. It does suck, but unfortunately bad calls are a part of the game. It seemed she recovered well, but then after going up 2-0, she proceeded to lose the next 6 games. Can't rue a single point if you are going to proceed to go away in the third. You were up in all 3 sets, and you still lost.

Vika postures a lot during her matches with Serena...during today s match she was doing the same thing like being in Serena s face.Vika was behaving like Jankovic complaining about calls and then losing composure and got beat...that call is not what made her lose the match its that Serena got a little angry and decided to focus on every point.
Azarenka had the third set but she was outplayed in the final set
16-3
bye Scone!

thats why I love my baby she is an indomitable champion...

What a great comeback by Serena, I noticed she dropped her bottom and started to square up with the ball to hit her open stance forehand, text book. Vika knows how to create some difficult angles when she playing Serena, something Sharapova fail miserably trying to accomplish against Serena. Bravo Vika, she will be back in the top ten and just need to be on the other side of the draw.

I heard about that call, but you are correct it didn't decide the match , Vika is probably just frustrated and trying to figure out a way to win. I still like her as a player, I am not caught up in all that melodrama about Sasha or etc. I hope those two can just keep things on the court with their marvelous unique tennis abilities, IMO

Vika got robbed. I feel very sorry for her. It is possible the match could have ended in two sets. Why can't the ump get a replay? How did Serena explain not giving up the point?

Wanted to watch the Serena-Azarenka match but my pilot light finally blew out and it took me about six hours to get it back on. Loved reading you guys' comments. Told me everything I need to know about what happened in the match. Better than the real highlights sometimes. :snicker

But good way to save the day Serena! That was a huge match for her and I really hope we get to see a Serena-Kvitova semifinal match to determine who smashes Sugarpova into gummi bears.

It isn't Serena's call to make. Yes, it does suck. Also, the surest way to make sure moments like this don't happen when things get close is to put someone away when all momentum has swung your way. Don't get broken right back to even things at 4-4, so things like this don't matter. She was up all three sets, and she still couldn't put Serena away.

If Azarenka was a bit tougher mentally, she would be heading for her 10th Grand slam about now. Those situations are the ones that divide the greats from the goods. Serena has it. Azarenka hasn't found it yet. If she ever will.

The fact of the matter is it is a taller task to ask Vika to maintain a high level of tennis for 3 sets, so that she has a shot at putting Serena away than it is to ask Serena to find another level and set in to the task of entering back into a match. Clearly, the serve and forehand breaks down at some point for Vika if she continuously asked to fight. She runs out of gas. You see it in some matches when she plays Serena where she has fought so hard to make a match of it that she lets up at times and has no more to give. If Vika wants to beat Serena, she has to do it in two sets because the chance of Serena coming out in three is greater than Vika coming out on top in three.
