Tennis loves its traditions, but the clay tournaments need to realize it's the 21st century, and there is technology to settle these line calls accurately. Even with the mark the ball leaves, we've all seen examples of umps and line judges getting it wrong.
But in this case, he called the ball good, but said Serena had a play so they should replay it. Even w/ Hawkeye, replaying of the point is at the discretion of the ump
I understand that RB. But even when a ball is called good on Hawkeye it's still up to the discretion of the umpire, whether the player had a play on the ball or not. That's where human error can occur, like it did here.Riotbeard said:kskate2 said:tented said:Tennis loves its traditions, but the clay tournaments need to realize it's the 21st century, and there is technology to settle these line calls accurately. No they replayed it on tv, the line call was after serena had netted her shot, so it did not disrupt her shot. She had already made the error, before the line-judge yelled.

But they did replay it instead of giving the point to Vika. That's my point about human error.Riotbeard said:kskate2 said:I understand that RB. What call are you talking about? I am talking about last point of set 2. She made her play, and it was an error. After the error, the lines-person called it out azarenka's shot that serena committed the error on. Then the ump overturned it and made them replay the point. Since, serena hit the ball before the call, there was no need to replay.
