That was an awful call. Umps have to hate TV replay...

Tennis loves its traditions, but the clay tournaments need to realize it's the 21st century, and there is technology to settle these line calls accurately. Even with the mark the ball leaves, we've all seen examples of umps and line judges getting it wrong.

I too have often wondered about it (especially when the umpire comes down and different
people point at different marks). Then I investigated as to why they are not using hawk-eye.
Apparently, it is not due to tradition. The margin of error for hawk-eye system on clay
is much higher (and in particular higher than acceptable threshold) on clay courts in comparison
to hard or grass courts. This is because the ground is not solid (so to speak) and the ball
has a skidding effect on the crushed brick making it difficult for the hawk-eye system to
pin-point the landing place.

Can the people who are claiming that my posts have no merit truthfully say that they can move on without grumbling if Serena's shot hit the baseline, Vika's shot hit the net, and they were told to replay the point?

I was so curious about this that I asked someone who plays competitively. The person said Serena did not cheat, but she knew she struck the ball before the out call. Ok I accept that there was no cheating involved. However, this is like screaming during every shot, making the receiver or server wait, and otherwise doing everything to gain an advantage. I am done discussing this. Everyone here knows how hard I root for Serena, but justice was not served today.

If the umpire has asked Serena as to whether she hit it before or after the call by lines judge
and she had answered after, she can be accused of cheating. Since there was no question
and just a decision by the umpire, she cannot be accused of cheating.

6-0 is a bagel, and 6-1 is a breadstick. But I think we need a name for when someone is up at least 2-0, and their opponent proceeds to win six games in a row.

That is called a pretzel (but, I must admit that the name had not picked on by everybody)
independent of how 6-2 happened as 2 is almost like a twisted pretzel.

There is no question that among all the girls out there, Vika gives the toughest fight to Serena
currently (and for the last 2/3 years).

Most seem ok with the way that point went for various reasons. Maybe you think it is ok because you are Serena fans. How would you feel if a ball Serena hit landed on the baseball, Vika missed, the ball was called out, then the ump instructed them to replay?
Like the let on match point at the AO, she would have given a hard stare moved on and hit a winner on the next point.

P.S. I am a big Vika fan.

I would be fine with Serena having to replay the point. Yes, it does suck, but Nouni went with the neutral decision. Serena would have given a stare and maybe initially argued the point, but Serena would have moved on because 9 times out of 10 she is going to win the point on her serve anyway because she has that type of confidence. Also, Nouni saw the match. It wasn't like he wasn't aware Serena hit the ball into the net. Serena admitted the ball was in, so he could have very easily awarded Vika the point based on those two things, but he didn't.

I think the reason why that point mattered so much is because against Serena every point matters, and people can not look at the match as a whole. Despite that one moment, Vika had plenty of opportunities to win this match.

For example at 4-2, she could have broken Serena to go up 5-2 and served it out, heck she could have broken Serena to go up 5-2, lost serve for 5-3 and broken Serena to win or she and Serena could have both held serve from that point and she still would have won, but she didn't.

Also, it didn't seem to effect Vika too much as she raced to a 2-0 lead in set 3. All she had to do was hold serve and/or break Serena and she would have won. It isn't like Azarenka at the very least didn't have a shot at breaking Serena as the ROS is her bread and butter.

Folks. It wouldn't have made a difference to the final result. Vika admitted that. I'm a Vika fan, no point beating it to death. It just makes it bigger than it was. I for one won't begrudge Serena getting a controversial situation go her way. I recall a match here against Henin she was cheated out of, and let's not even talk about the Capriati match at the US Open. These things happen! And Serena is no cheat

Serena doesnt have a history of cheating and all her wins were merited..Vika was tiring in set 2 because Serena was pressuring her..her team is doing her a disservice by telling her that she was robbed in Madrid..the ball in Madrid was called out by the umpire not Serena.
Vika must think of another way of beating Serena, she took her hitting partner and its not working now she is blaming the umpires who never really favor Serena..
I hope its 20-3 for Zenka and 20-2 for POVA in 2015

Azarenka said she broke a chair after losing the match,I think there is more to this than just a bad call in second set.She is now claiming that Serena plays her and pova harder than other players..she is forgetting that Serena owns her friend Wozniacki too..she sounds bitter that she lost the match when she was leading 2-0 in the third set.
I want Serena to beat her again at Wimbledon and for Serena to increase her security detail....this bad call issue is now borderline ridiculous...she needs to move on.
she thought snatching Sascha will make her beat Serena...she better forget it because Serena has long memory and will beat her ova and ova..
I am sure its Sascha who is inciting all this nonsense...
just a bunch of sore losers.....thank goodness Serena gave a brother a job instead of Sasch the ingrate
