From Chris O'Keefe @ 9newsAus@2GB873,

"Mr Djokovic's lawyer's have recently provided lengthy further submission and supporting documentation to Government lawyers said to be relevant to the possible cancellation of Mr Djokovic's visa. This will affect the time frame"

Djoke is dragging out the process so he gets in the draw and deals with the fallout after the tournament.

Australian officials widened their investigation into Novak Djokovic's visa to include a series of errors and discrepanies, from the Age,
1. His isolation breach
2. Incorrect travel declaration breach
3.Inconsistent statements on when he learnt of his positive result.

Well, the L'equipe interview is too much even for me. That was just wrong.

What a disaster.

But according to them he got the virus a couple of times already....what about if he would get it for the third or fourth or fifth time?

He's going to play. And everything will go as normal, to the extent that it can. The government will fine him, down the road, for some irregularities in his paperwork. He will pay the fines happily, because he can afford it, and it will all go quietly away. This is how rich people get to do what they want.
I’m not too sure now. I think his troubles maybe only starting. But I wonder about something @MargaretMcAleer wrote, that they’re now investigating his breaking isolation. This is surely more a matter for the Serbians, but I wonder if there’s going to use it as an example of his not taking the virus seriously?

I think that morally he’s very tainted now, and if he felt any great pressure in the last few days, he might be feeling something worse, given the reaction to his admission. Denis isn’t the only Djoker fan today who’s disappointed in him.

Though it’s highly unlikely, I’m not going to be surprised if he withdraws..

don’t be too strict
let’s see how it all ends
I think at this stage, it’s hard to see on what grounds they can be lenient. They already tried to stop him once, and he only got off on a technicality that’s unrelated to his travel docs.

Now it’s difficult to imagine them saying, “okay, so you lied on your visa application, and you requested a medical exemption after the date it was required by, and for this you chose to use a recovery from covid cert which isn’t a valid medical exemption at all, and when you tested positive for covid you put other peoples health at risk by treating your legal obligation to isolate with contempt - go on, ye little fecker, enjoy the tournament! You owe me a Guinness though!”

In Ireland we might use fecker as a polite way of saying “f*cker”, but even if we used f*cker in this context, it would be jovial and brimful of admiration for a harmless rogue…

Yeah, it doesn't look good especially since these guys want to act tough on border control. I only see some hope in the fact that they might just want to end it and not get into potential litigation. I am sure Serbian diplomats, Djokovic team and the authorities are talking to each other behind the scenes. Maybe they can agree to some kind of action by Djokovic that would allow him to stay. Donate all his prize money to Covid relief + complete isolation.

Do you think you would have written this?:

“Yeah, it doesn't look good especially since these guys want to act tough on border control. I am sure Spanish diplomats, Nadal’s team and the authorities are talking to each other behind the scenes. Maybe they can agree to some kind of action by Nadal that would allow him to stay. Or this:

”Yeah, it doesn't look good especially since these guys want to act tough on border control. I only see some hope in the fact that they might just want to end it and not get into potential litigation. I am sure Swiss diplomats, Federer’s team and the authorities are talking to each other behind the scenes. Maybe they can agree to some kind of action by Federer that would allow him to stay. Donate all his prize money to Covid relief + complete isolation.”

And what if Djokovic loses in the first round? Where would the prize money come from?

I’ve yet to encounter a Djokovic fan who has stated he needs to leave — which is precisely what would have already happened had the average citizen done these things. Do you think you would still be in Australia had you claimed someone else made the mistake on the travel forms? Or submitted a questionable PCR test?

This is the essence of what’s going on: When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like discrimination.

Just stating what is happening: the Serbian government is offering diplomatic assistance to the most popular citizen in their country.

You can get all excited about deporting someone if you want, enjoy it. I am not going to advocate forced or voluntary expulsion of any tennis player for a particular tournament. It's a global sport. If Nadal files incorrect paperwork, I would not get excited like you about his prospects of getting deported, that is for sure. I would, however, get excited if he gets straightsetted by Djokovic.

I think if Rafa did this I’d be bothered by it. Can’t imagine myself defending it. When Rafa takes too long between points I don’t even defend that, though I insist it’s up to the umpire to stop him. Thing is, I don’t imagine Rafa doing this. Like at the USO a couple years ago, I don’t imagine Rafa smashing a ball into a lineswoman’s neck, then trying to cajole the tournament officials into turning a blind eye to the rules.

You’re right about privilege in this case. These lads are highly privileged, regardless of the fact that they work their socks off, and that their unique gifts already set them apart. If it was Joe Soap at the border, he wouldn’t still be at the border - he’d be on his way home…

I’d hope most of us would be concerned, because this isn’t a small thing, and Djoker is an important component of what makes modern tennis so compelling. The whole thing is tragic, in its way.

What does it mean, they’re diplomatic assistance?
