Seeing we are waiting for Rafa to start playing on the tour again,
Just an reminder what happened on this day April 25th, 2005 when 18 year old Rafa broke into the Top 10 for the first time.
That was 17 years ago to this day, and he hasn't left the elite since- not even for a week.
It's the longest Top 10 streak in ATP rankings history, and he's still going strong.

I am actually curious to see if he can reach 1,000 consecutive weeks in the Top 10.

He is 116 weeks away from 1,000 weeks which is approximately 2 years and 2 months...

I definitely think he will try his best to play the 2024 Olympics because it will be at RG on Clay. At the same time, I won’t be surprised at all if decides to make 2024 as his final year of career.
If he wants to get to the number#25 he has to play until 2024..

Do you think he will be playing in 2 years time?
Personally, I think as long as he's winning and healthy, he'll play, as he's a competitive person. 2 years from now, and still in the top 10? That seems a lot to hope for.

I agree. If I were him though, I will just play the 4 slams, IW and mostly Clay court tournaments (minus Madrid). He can even do a Roger Federer where he skips Wimbledon after this year so he can enjoy fishing at Mallorca after the Clay season.

I agree if Rafa is still competitive he will continue to play, though with a reduced schedule, for the next couple of years.,of course remaining healthy is a top priority.

I would like to see Carlos play Novak soon.

From the man himself, welcome back, Rafa!

I hope he doesn’t push himself too hard to try to win Madrid. It doesn’t come as close to the conditions at RG the way other clay-court tournaments do, such as MC and Rome. I’m convinced if it weren’t for Rafa being Spanish, he would skip Madrid. Hamburg was a better RG tune up event.

This year, he doesn’t have choice but to play Madrid due to lack of Clay court matches under his belt. But I agree with you, if he is healthy, he should skip Madrid every day!

Sure, I get the idea of having to play Madrid out of necessity, but I hope he doesn’t go all out to win, especially since it is his first tournament since IW. I’d prefer he just test the waters, so to speak, in Madrid and keeps everything else in reserve for Rome and Paris.

Is Feli still the tourney director for Madrid?

I don’t think he will go out hard to win Madrid.

Great to see that Rafa will play Madrid. :good:

I think this is a great sign that he's already able to comeback and compete at the highest level and I feel that this is setting him up nicely in order to peak at RG for #22. :rose::yes:
