The draw seems beyond important for Roger this year. But it won't matter if he doesn't get his act together. The last couple matches were worse than 2013 in most ways. Hopefully Djoker will be in Nad's quarter.

pretty much.Needs to fix his return especially.
Throw in JMDP and Cilic in Nadals half as well.
I'm hoping Federer gets Zverev,Anderson,Dimitrov as his top #8 seeds.

The mental state is the biggest thing. If he wasn't humiliated by this loss and the Wimbledon loss we will just see more of the same. "Content" is the worst thing an athlete can be.

DelPo seems an unfortunate out for anyone in the draw, but the next generation is starting to prove a nasty ask for anyone as well. Djokovic is more likely to go out to an unknown entity or next gen player than to an established player. I don’t necessarily think it matters for Djokovic where Nadal and Federer loom in the draw more so than say where Tsitsipas or Zverev land in the US Open draw. It will be interesting to see. Federer will definitely need some luck with the draw. He at least has the #2 seed in his favor and can’t meet Nadal before the final. I would have said if he met Nadal before the final it definitely would not be in his favor. However, any of them could prove to land Djokovic for a QF opponent ouch.

Especially at his age.Motivation will be key moving forward for Federer if he wants to challenge for big titles.

I think Djokovic would easily take the next gen guys at this point. This win will be a confidence builder for sure and when he's playing at or near his best he is just too good for anyone except Nadal on clay and Roger on fast surfaces (yes even taking yesterday into consideration). And he is obviously more than capable of beating those guys on their best surfaces as he's proved.

If he loses at this USO it will be a sizable upset no matter who it's against.

People are hoping Nole's in Nad's quarter instead of Fed's, but they're assuming he even gets that far! From what I've seen of his play, Roger may have trouble just getting out of the early rounds depending on the dark horses that will be floating in the draw! He might get a player ranked #33 and be gone DAY ONE! It happens; happened to #9 McEnroe when he had to go up against Paul Annacone who just missed a seed ranked #17! He took John out in the very first round of the '86 USO in 4 sets! That was bad luck and it can happen again! Both Novak and Roger went 3 sets unnecessarily to lower ranked players in Cincy! At least we know Nole has his act together, but Roger has some work to do! :yesyes:

Absolutely correct. The Fed we saw for much of this tournament won't be getting to the QF at the USO. All this week proved is that Fed can play like a complete hack on fast courts and still beat most.

I have seen great signs from Stan this past week. He is getting fitter and he got some nice matches under his belt. And the New York surface is more to his liking than Cincy. I expect him to do some damage. Obviously with Stan you never know but the signs are there. He is almost ready.

After Cincy became history and history was made by Novak, it is time to take a look at odds for winning USO once again.
Here is the complete list of players with a puncher's chance at winning USO. We are now back to three contenders (those with more
than 10% chance), three pretenders (those with more than 5% chance) and 14 also rans making up a total of 20 players with
a puncher's chance (those with 1% or more chances).

1. Djoker 11/4 (26.67%)
2. Bull 4 (20%)
3. Goat 11/2 (15.38%)
4. Sasha 10 (9.09%)
5. Tower of Tandil 14 (6.67%)
6. Cough Drop 20 (4.76%)
7. Muzza 28 (3.45%)
8. Stanimal / Badboy / Missile 33 (2.94%)
11. Baby / Kandy 40 (2.43%)
13. Theseus / Samurai / Dominator 50 (1.96%)
16. Tower of Greensboro 66 (1.50%)
17. McFly 80 (1.23%)
18. Shapo / Coric / Chung 100 (1%)

Here are the significant changes / observations:

a. Novak's odds slightly increased from 25%.
b. Roger's odds significantly reduced from 19% after a dismal showing in Cincy.
c. Murray and Cilic swapped spots after early exit by Muzza.
d. Stanimal gets back in and that too surging ahead as many as 10 other also rans.
e. Theseus moves ahead of the rest of the next gen pack.

We still have not reached a state where the field has a better chance than Fedalovic. When do you folks think it will happen?

It's going to be a while longer it seems so I wouldn't hold my breath in the foreseeable future for a changing of the guard! I've been begging for it as all know thru my rants about the Next Gen! With Nole's resurgence, we might just return to era of him "owning it!" Rafa & Roger w/b his "rivals in waiting!" That would be nice! He will inch up the major's list again to pass Sampras at least in the next yr! :yesyes:

When someone else beats them. Plain and simple.

If Roger is the GOAT, why is he 3rd best option? I see Wawrinka made it back into the blessings of the odds makers. JMDP over Cilic? Hmmm, with a dodgy wrist.

So which do you prefer? A Novak win, or a Next Gen breakout?

Right now I'd prefer Novak to put a stamp on this season because EVERYONE had just about counted him out! He was dropping matches serving for it; ala Queens! If not him, a NG'r like Sasha or Thiem; anyone but Fedal! :banghead:

You push for change, but not including Djokovic. Fair enough. Inconsistency, thy name is tennis fan.

I need him to get closer so Fedal doesn't seem so omnipotent to commentators and historians! Lendl went thru the same circumstances with stars ahead of him like Borg, McEnroe, and a fading Connors! I'll be perfectly satisfied not having to add anything to fan page I created below, but after Nole acquires 1 more FO, another Cincy, a couple AO to make it his own again like Fedal have Wimbledon/FO for them! I think I can live with that if Djokovic shuts it down for the Next Gen to take over! I'm not greedy! :yesyes:  :ptennis:

Not much greedy, but Darth is, too, and admits it. Aren't we all? Your agenda is that Fedal not own the era. I get the point, but good luck with that, no matter what he does. He'll just be his own thing. Fedal is a rivalry that won't be put aside. Nothing is going to upend that.

Federer can own the era; no problem with that! I'm just looking to reveal the complete record and not allow deification when he has serious rivals who've owned him at different times! Nole probably won't catch up, but his record will speak for itself! He has the most complete resume in the history of tennis; showing his versatility and not so dependent on a single surface like some players I know!

So your Big 3 prejudice only extends to Nadal? Funny, if you think, at this late stage of the game, that he is single-surface dependent. How many of those old-schoolers that you prize so much did so well across surfaces? Career Slam means nothing? If there weren't such a general prejudice against clay, Rafa would be held up in higher esteem.

I have no problem with the surface! It's just boring AF with Nadal; esp. when he's dominating with the ugliest game in the history of the sport behind Francios Durr! :nono:  :banghead: :negative:
