Sveta/Sam v Sara/Roberta next in the doubles match

I wonder if Sveta can re-discover her brain in a short turn around.

Couple of more matches before we call it a day.
JJ vs. Nastia is yet to start but Sam/Sveta are about to go aignst Sara/Roberta. There's also Sabine vs. Irina, the winner gets Halep.

Order of play coming soon and it's a good one!

Just watching the Serena match
Is that the same left thigh that Serena had bandaged in Charleston? I have forgotten
I hope it is just a precautionary thing.

Did everyone else see that the Champion's trophy this weekend will be presented by former world #1 Dinara Safina - and that Dinara will also formally announce her retirement this week.

Pavly has colored her locks. She's up a double break on JJ 5-2

Pvly does enjoy a 3-2 H2H record against JJ... but JJ has won last 2
Last time it was in China, score was 1-6 6-4 6-0

JJ can count herself lucky in that service game she had 2 DFs and managed to hold

Pavs will serve 4-5 2nd set

Pavs has fallen off the wagon. Error after error after bad shot selection and she is down a break in the decider 4-1

Serena isn't playing the clay court tennis she played last season, using topspin depth of shot to open up the court. She's playing more first - strike tennis, and I don't know if the strategy is to limit her time on the court because of fatigue from the last two season, or just confidence that she doesn't need to play that type of tennis.
I noticed that as well Calvy. She appears to be playing first strike tennis, however when she is on the defense she does seem to use some clay court strategies. I saw a picture of her for today's match and she is heavily taped on her upper thigh. She also appeared to have taping on her abdominal area. Hopefully it is for precaution and not for an actual injury.

It is how she should be playing her matches. Serena, I have felt in the past two years has been playing 90% of her matches like she was on a clay court and extending points far longer than she should be. I agree with your assessment Colleen where she is picking her spots better in using clay court strategies. I can't count the number of times over the past two years where I have seen Serena get in long baseline rallies that didn't need to be as long as she made them.
