No matter the outcome of this match, you have to love the fight of the young Garcia.

Gap is not significant enough for anyone to worry about. How close is she to Serena now, 4000 points behind?

I must say the crowds watching the WTA matches in Madrid overall have been low

Pick time.
:emperor:
Petra beats Simona.
Masha beats Aga.

In Doubles I am taking the Wild-Card-Spaniards over the Italians.

Not really, she hasn't won a set off Serena yet. But that may happen...
I think Serena, Aga, Masha, Petra and Ana will move on to quarters without much trouble....

More interesting match is Sloane vs Na
Can Sloane do to Li what she did to Serena last year? Li is capable of having senior moments you know.

I also like Garcia vs. Errani, I think that could be surprising.
Then there is Sabine versus Simona.
Oooh lala!!

OK, I'll keep my eye on those.

Serena had a large wrap on her leg

how serious is the leg injury. She says

its preventative but ........

That big a wrap speaks of Injury

Serena:
''I just had some issues and went preventive to make sure I didn't make anything worse,'' said Williams. ''I'm literally taking it one day, one match at a time, and not putting any pressure on myself.''

now a leg wrap suddenly a Big deal for RJ..talking about injuries..lol

MADRID -- Two-time defending champion Serena Williams withdrew from the Madrid Open on Friday because of a left thigh injury.

The top-ranked American has had her thigh heavily bandaged during play at the clay-court event, and said the injury occurred during a first-round victory over Belinda Bencic on Sunday.

"It started to get better but, most importantly right now, I just need some time to rest and recover. It's beyond words. It's so frustrating," Williams said in a statement. "This is not the way I wanted this week to end."

The withdrawal gave 2011 champion Petra Kvitova a walkover victory and a spot in the semifinals.

The 32-year-old Williams said the injury would not keep her out of the French Open, with the defending champion tweeting she would play in Rome next week before the second Grand Slam of the season starts on May 25.

"Sad I could not play my match today. But I'm recovering fast and getting ready for Rome and Roland Garros," Williams wrote.

Doubles finals is on, I can't find a video stream but the scoreboard says the Spaniards are ahead 3-2 in the first. The Italians are serving.

Ahead 4-3 in the first set, te Spaniard had a mini break at 0-30 but the Italians hung tough and took the first set from there, breaking the Spaniards in the crucial 9th game.

I hope the crowd re-energizes the home girls and we get a super-tie-breaker.
