Davydenko failed to qualify for MD, sad to see that. some rumours say that he'll retire at the end of 2014, he'll be missed anyway

Also, I heard that this is the first Masters tournament that he is involuntarily missing.
I don't know whether it is true as a matter of fact. I too heard the rumors that he plans
to hang his hat sometime this year.

Anyway, his legacy may be cemented as the answer to the trivia question of
"who has the winning H2H against Rafa?", if he retires by the end of this year. :clap

Let me educate you: Davydenko is not the only player with a winning record against Nadal, so the trivia question itself is wrong, as well as the answer.

I agree that he is not the only player with winning record against Nadal,; but isn't it true that
he belongs to a small group of such players?

It's not a matter of whether or not you agree; it's a statement of fact.

Davydenko is one of seven players with a winning record against Nadal.

OK. Here is the complete list of players with winning records against Rafa.

Russia Nikolay Davydenko 6–5
Slovakia Dominik Hrbatý 3–1
Spain Àlex Corretja 2–0
Australia Chris Guccione 1–0
Thailand Paradorn Srichaphan 1–0
Sweden Joachim Johansson 1–0
France Olivier Mutis 1–0

Do you see who heads the list?

The trivia question needs to be changed to "Who is the only player to have winning
record against Nadal, with at least 5 matches played between them?".

It is amazing as to how small this list is. It has only seven players. Against 4 of
them Rafa did not even get a second chance.

Surely Davydenko will be known for this in posterity.

We have a "Slum Dog Millionaire" show tomorrow. It is the Dog vs. Millionaire.

Here is the OOP for Sunday. There are four 1st round matches scheduled for sunday
in addition to the seven final round qualifying matches.

What makes Davy a trivia question is that he's the only active player with a winning record v. Nadal. But it's by far the largest sampling, and they didn't only play when Rafa was a baby. I'd say it's the best of the winning h2hs.

Paradorn Srichaphan was a very nice player to watch. Shame about his wrist injury that caused him to retire. Back when Basel used to have a red carpet court.

I think Paradorn got married to the top beauty queen or swim suit model or something like
that in Thailand. So, going by that, his tennis career paid off. ;)

Guccione is also an active player, so Rafa has the chance to whittle the list down to five.

Joachim Johansson returned to action in last year's Stockholm Open and it doesn't currently list him as retired so who knows. What a serve the guy has.

It was Miss Universe 2005 that Srichapan got married to.

But, they apparently got divorced in 2010 (I did not know that before) as
"duty separated us (a retired tennis player and an ex model) often".

Rafa will most probably face Pablo Andujar in 3rd round. His name is hidden in the draw
as he is not a seeded player.

Remember Rio Guys?

Bring him on.

Even if Rafa won no clay titles from now on, his legacy as the best dirt baller ever is more than secure. Rafa on clay is like Jordan on hardwood.

yes, Kathy Jordan was awesome on wood courts in the 80s.

While waiting for things to heat up in Monte Carlo, I've been enjoying watching the goings on in Augusta Georgia. I don't know if there is a more beautiful golf course anywhere.

I just got to see the draw for MC and there are some interesting pairings early on. Looks like a good week of tennis ahead.

Novak has a potential quarterfinal against the Dog in MC. He is already getting
ready for that.

It feels strange heading into Monte Carlo with Nadal not being the defending champion.

A pity imo as Gulbis is usually very good on clay but good on Dolgo all the same.
