Nah he's not. Fabio Fognini is definitely one of the best movers out there. Then again, depends who you class as big four. In terms of top movers on tour, Fognini is in the top 4. I'm not talking level of play, results etc, but simply movement and anticipation and he's right up there.

hmmm... the point is that Fognini only moves well when he feels like it. Most of the time he is either ranting, not bothering, or simply being lazy. In the 15% share of points the prima dona decides to run, yes, he is right up there.

Sure Murray mopes and sulks even more and you can tell he doesn't try as hard when he's in that mood. To an extent when things aren't going their way, all players are guilty of that. Still think Fognini is top 4 in terms of movement though.

Front, R u saying that the Fog moves better than Murray? Nadal? or Fed? enlighten us.. this has got to be a good one

First match of the day completed:
Seppi - Young 6-3, 6-1.
They were slotted against each other in IW as well, both matches ended up with the same outcome.

In completely inconsequential news: John Millman defeats Pablo Carreno Busta. I only mention this because Busta has really turned out to be a bust. Remember when he stormed through the challengers and caught everyone's eye a couple years ago? He's completely stagnated since and has yet to rank higher than #49.

Busta broke into the top 100 in August of 2013 at the age of 22. He's ranked in the #49-75 range since then. Remarkable consistency, but no upward movement. He is a good example of how "breakthroughs" at the relatively advanced age of 22-23 usually don't mean a lot. Most elite players do what Busta did at 22, 3-4 years earlier. Once you get to 22ish, you're usually as good--or close to as good--as you'll ever be.

It is so funny, my next post was going to say: "Carreno-Busta was busted by Millman". but you beat me at it.
To be fair, Busta stormed into the top 100 based only on wins on the clay challenger events. I never expected to see him a top player overall, when more than 50% of events are played somewhere else than clay.

But you are right, I thought as a good clay specialist to see him at least in the top 30. Was not meant to be so far.
But we have bigger busts than Busta. D. Young probably takes the cake. Last year he managed at least to be a top 4 in the USA, now he has been passed by veteran Ram, Kudla and now with this fiasco, he will slip below Fritz as well. He will be ranked 8 among USA players and getting a 80+ ranking overall.

^I saw Carreno Busta play cuevas here in the São Paulo final. He has a beautiful clay court game, and has, well, potential. He has power off both wings and can grind reasonably well. I can see him stringing some good weeks together and doing well in the clay season.

However, he was probably exactly the same a few years back and this never happened, illustrating exactly your point...

I remember PCB. In 2013 he was the answer to the trivia question, "Name a player who won more matches than Rafa Nadal?"

Though it's an upset on paper due to ranking, I'd have to say that was an expected result as Istomin is a better player imo. Just inconsistent and has had a lot of injuries which have meant his ranking was hard to maintain.

Coric really isn't that good. Probably will have his best results on clay. Not a fan of the grunting either. Seems to be a clay player thang actually :dodgy:

Coric should be beating the Istomins of the world, however. He is 19 and will be 20 later this year, meaning he's deep into his "developmental range" and should be rising faster than he is. I think right now odds are against him becoming a true elite. Top 20, definitely. Top 10, probably. But Top 5 and regular Slam contender? That's starting to be in doubt.

Jim Courier said it best, "If you could have Coric's professionalism and Kyrgios big serve and aggressiveness and vice versa, then you will have an ideal young player."

Coric's problem will be his lack of aggressiveness. Until he develops a big weapon of his own, then he will have a hard time progressing in the tournament. The one thing I like about him is that he seems very professional even at his young age. If he continues to be professional, then I think he will be a very good player in the future.

That's why I'm very curious on how Sascha Zverev develops on his own. He has the tools and aggressive nature to be a great player in the future. Hopefully, he does become a great player in the future.

Well said on Coric. Zverev is probably one of my favorites of the youngsters. Was mildly concerned by his "meltdown" against Rafa in their last match. Hopefully it was just a blip, one that he learns from.

Not sure he'll even make top 10 personally. Coric that is. I also like Zverev but his dopey haircut annoys me :p

Nadal's movement is not what it was so yes I'm saying Fognini moves better than Nadal of the last few years. Obviously not talking about prime Nadal.

You realize Raonic won 2 games right? He never had match point lol. That's not a meltdown, that's just a bad day.
