Qual. completed. The following players added to the main draw: Ito, Becker, Herbert, Dutra-Silva, Smyczek, Paul, Kukushkin, Fritz, Novikov, Granollers, Fratangelo, Gonzalez, Donaldsen, Nishioka.
Two of them are lucky losers, so there were two withdrawals.

Nice to see some young names in there: Fritz, Paul, Novikov, Fratangelo, Donaldson, Nishioka.

Donaldson and Nishioka are slotted to play each other in R1.

Rublev is out, defeated by #56 Inigo Cervantes.

Zverev is through to the 2R, beating 18-year old Michael Mmoh, another young American to watch.

I looked up a photo of Rublev. I can understand why he won Junior FO. He is tall but not broad. I imagine he could be a rival to Coric eventually?? I am hoping Thiem replaces Nadal as the next big clay counter.

Mmoh took Zverev to two TBs. Very impressive.

Federer said he is keeping a close eye on Rublev. I am curious to see him play.

Really? Do you have a link? I thought I was the only one who was singling out Rublev as a possible future star. I really like what I see, but haven't seen anyone else say anything. If Roger says it, I'll feel validated ;)

I don't have a link. Federer said this a few days before USO 2015. I attended a private function where he answered questions posed by fans. I was surprised he mentioned Rublev because I had never heard of him before. I recorded most of the Q and A so I probably have a clip of him saying Rublev could be a top player.

Someone asked Federer why the Big Four have dominated for so long. His response was that tennis is a game of movement, and the Big Four are the best movers on the planet.

Nah he's not. Fabio Fognini is definitely one of the best movers out there. Then again, depends who you class as big four. In terms of top movers on tour, Fognini is in the top 4. I'm not talking level of play, results etc, but simply movement and anticipation and he's right up there.

I still marvel at him scrambling to get that net cord against Nadal on match point in BA semi last season! It dribbled over ad he got there in time to angle it off for a winner and the match! :clap :p

Yeah, was thinking of that point as I typed that and that's a perfect example of how well he moves.

Fritzy wins. Very important to consolidate his top 100 ranking, he defeats Simone Bolelli, who is ranked only 2 places ahead of him at #79. Score: 6-4, 6-2.
Nicely done:clap

Finally an American man with a great serve and has a decent forehand and backhand. If he can develop a decent net game, he can be lethal down the road.

hmmm... the point is that Fognini only moves well when he feels like it. Most of the time he is either ranting, not bothering, or simply being lazy. In the 15% share of points the prima donna decides to run, yes, he is right up there.

He still has lots of things to work on. But plenty of time to get better.
He meets Ferrer next, that will be a great learning experience, to see how he can get trough David's defense.

Sure Murray mopes and sulks even more and you can tell he doesn't try as hard when he's in that mood. To an extent when things aren't going their way, all players are guilty of that. Still think Fognini is top 4 in terms of movement though.
