So Novak wins against Bird, despite playing with just one back. :)

That might be problem, remember Davis Cup vs Delpo, he crushed down because of back. Few days ago i asked myself about his back. If will repeat and now this.

Thiem only converted 1 of 14 break points I believe yesterday. As bad as Roger there.

My photographic memory thinks it was "1 of 15" BP's! No worries mate! :p  :dodgy: :ras:

I could have read up to grab a link but I was busy with the more important links above :p But yeah, I think you're right. Either way it's a crap stat. I mean kudos to Novak for saving many but out of 14 or 15 or whatever, a fair few have to be just plain blown chances too.

Is Djoker best performer to escape break ? No news about that statistic in all.

Last night it was pretty windy. They'd toss the ball and then have to lunge for it. He said it made his back spasm. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

so goffin makes back to back masters semi's. nice work sir.

It is an impressive achievement. Not many would have predicted such an accomplishment for him 2-3 years ago.
Now the 3 leaders of his generation are: Nishi, Raonic and Goffin (and not Dimitrov as it used to be).

Goffin might be the next David Ferrer: a guy that is consistent and always in the mix, but has a pretty low ceiling and will never win a Slam. But I could see him sneaking in a Masters once Novak's back starts spasming more.

David Ferrer level is still too high for David Goffin I think. I could see him getting into the top 7-10, but top 5 I doubt it. Also, he will probably never win as many titles either, like Ferru did.

Front. Man. You barely get to see Nadal play(go deep) in tournaments anymore, why are you whining lol. And Kyrgios is a damn retard and a whiner. If we had actual stats, you'd be surprised how much some players take between their serves and win in the most disgusting way. But enough about that, l am still crying because of the Thiem-Djokovic match. There is only one man who can bare the burden of wasting 3863992938 break points, The Deathless One. Dominic lost that match because of some awful returns and being generally unclutch. His baseline game can hang with Novak's comfortably though.

PM.. Rafa could be Front's wingman at bar.. pick these two international super models who come from very wealthy families and Front would still complain about Rafa... With Front the best thing to do is the old Dr. Seuss book(my favorite one) Green Eggs and Ham

Front , Would you hang out with Rafa

Front reply:

I could not, would not, hang with Rafa on a boat.
I will not, will not, hang with Rafa with a goat.
I will not hang with Rafa in the rain.
I will not hang with Rafa on a train.
Not in the dark! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not want to hang with Rafa in a box.
I do not want to hang with Rafa with a fox.
I will not want to hang with Rafa in a house.
I do not want to hang with Rafa with a mouse.
I do not like Rafa here or there.
I do not like Rafa ANYWHERE!

I do not like
Rafael Nadal

I agree and should have said "his generation's version of" David Ferrer.

Remember also that Ferrer only made it into the top 5 after his better peers (other than Federer) were gone or declined - Hewitt, Roddick, Safin, Nalbandian, Davydenko, etc. It may be that his success over the last six or seven years is partially due to the idea that the second tier talent has been weaker than before. There's been more talent at the top with the Big Fourish, but less--in my opinion--in that second tier. Also, Ferrer maximized his ranking by winning a ton of lesser tournaments: he's got 15 ATP 250s and 10 ATP 500s, but only one Masters.

So my view is that Goffin could play a similar role over the next five years or so. My sense of his game is that he's consistent and solid overall, but not capable of a super-high level. In other words, he'll beat more talented players like Dimitrov and Sock because he's more consistent and level-headed, just as Ferrer tended to beat more talented players like Tsonga, Berdych, and Gasquet.

Novak says: "If I may say, I do feel better this year than I felt last year at the very same stage of the season, that's definitely satisfies me, and I'm hoping I can continue on and keep the same trajectory"
So according his words, he is ok, any problem with his back except some discomfort.
Looking who and how the rest of the players still there are playing I don't think he is going to let go this tournament, no way.
I've got a couple of tickets for this evening session so I'm going to watch Raonic-Kyrgios in the Stadium, we'll see with what Kyrgios is going to entertain us :snicker

This is incorrect. Ferrer cracked the top 5 in November 2007, when he was 25y old. He was still 25 when he managed to be ranked 4 for the first time (Feb. 2008).

I would like to see a Djoke vs Krygios final because anyone else would likely lose to him in two sets.

Happy to see Monfils winning. Maybe somebody finally got through to him that he is running out of time. He is an enigma. All that power and he hits shots like Coric does at times. Pushing will not beat the top players.

Picking Monfils over Nishikori and Kyrgios over Raonic.

LOL, you really are a literalist, aren't you?

Anyhow, I beg to differ, or at least think you mistook my meaning. While Ferrer cracked the top 5 in 2007, it was temporary - about a year - and then he fell back and finished 2008 #12 and 2009 #17. It wasn't until 2010 that he was consistently in the top ten, and 2011 that he became a regular top 5 player.

So yeah, I stand by what I said above. Whether we're talking 2010 or 2011, most of those players above were in decline or gone when Ferrer reached his peak.

Here, I did a bit of research to further the point I'm trying to make.

2007, as you pointed out, was Ferrer's first breakthrough. Federer was #1, Davydenko #4, and all other players of his generation--those born 1979-83--were ranked lower. In fact, the others were all starting to fade. Roddick and Gonzalez were right behind him at #6 and #7, and then Nalbandian at #9, so those three were all playing very well, but Hewitt, Safin, Coria and Ferrero were all far from their primes.

In 2008-09, Ferrer fell back and was behind several players of his generation, although Gonzalez and Nalbandian were also both starting to fade.

Finally, in 2010--the real beginning of Ferrer's peak, only Federer was in the top 5 and ranked ahead of him. It was Roddick's last year in the top 10, and everyone else was fading away. Mardy Fish had his best year in 2011, finishing #8, but no other player of this generation finished in the top 10 from that point on.

So yeah, my point stands: Ferrer peaked when almost everyone else was either declined or retired. Now whether this is because Ferrer was a late-bloomer or because his peer group was stronger than the later (second tier) players is debatable; as in most such cases I'm guessing it is a bit of both.

One final note: As I see it, 2008 was the year that the 1984-88 generation took over as the dominant generation in the game; Roger's generation had been the dominant one from 2001-07. So by the time Ferrer's best sequential years began in 2010, his generation was, overall, a few years past peak.

"At least Roger wants samples kept for 10 years and wants them to be retroactively tested when ant doping technology improves, No one but him has asked for this so there's got to be a reason he wants it done"

Are you kidding me Front? from where have you had that information, from some Swiss newspaper, from his own words or maybe from fans like you who believes everything he says like in the "sects"? :speechless:

I even posted a link above lol. Are you for real? Just google Federer wants samples to be kept for 10 years and you'll get tons of results. I'm not a blind fan who believes everything. It was an interview and he's said this before to the media. You should really do some research before accusing me of being a blind fan. I couldn't be further from that and you in that way. If he says or does something dumb I don't defend him. I even posted another link which you also missed showing Federer was only tested once in 10 years at Dubai which as he says is not acceptable.

Monfils a pusher? No way! Well actually...for one of the most mind numbingly, torturous points you'll ever witness and if you're feeling suicidal watch this crap! :cover

Nishikori is just loading up on his shots, while Monfils is endeavoring to get them back. Gael ain't gonna win playing that way. :nono Kei up a break in the decider.
