Happy to see Monfils winning. Maybe somebody finally got through to him that he is running out of time. He is an enigma. All that power and he hits shots like Coric does at times. Pushing will not beat the top players.

The unkindest cut of all. Monfils is definitely allowing himself to be pushed around today. He's put in 10 miles to Nishi's 1 mile.

Yes, Monfils pushes often. He does it because he has the speed to defend, but this makes for a boring match.

He looks completely winded. Could not win five match points. It is tough being a fan.

Have to hand it to Monfils. There are times he gives the fans their moneys worth, in terms of drama, if not in terms of excellence...

Nick has a pretty clean stroke on his backhand. While he may be able to hit some big winners off his forehand, he has a real tendency to slap at the shot.

I'm impressed with Kyrgios. He is an explosive player with the game to beat anyone...IF he controls himself. He's still young, but he'll be 21 in a few weeks so no longer a baby...time to grow up.

In a way he reminds me a bit of a young Del Potro, before injuries derailed what could have been a brilliant career.

I only saw part of the first set. Kyrgios is so impressive. Did he exhibit emotional volatility on court? If he could just suppress the urge to blow up, he can get to the top of the game. Fun player to watch.

Incidentally, where is Fog?

Kyrgios was pretty steady throughout the match. He was impressive.

Nick can play well when he focuses on tennis, and only tennis

A Nick-Novak final would be how many times more interesting than Goff v Monf?

Ten times? 100 times? A thousand times? A million? :popcorn

Nick has to get past Nishikori first. But I think he has a good shot.

It seems that he's in the "fast forward" phase of his development, when a player jumps from the 30-50 waiting room into the top 10. He's #20 now, if he beats Kei he's #18. If he beats Novak he's #15. Even if he doesn't, with strong showings at Monte Carlo (he didn't play there last year) and/or Barcelona, he could be in the top 10 before Roland Garros.

Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot that Nishi won that match! Le Monf had so many match points I forgot he found a way to lose. :cover

Okay, so Nishi in the final isn't a bad choice either... :popcorn

It's a running theme with the 2nd tier! I still can't forget Grigor at Cincy with multiple breaks and MP's, but found a way to lose to Murray! Just unforgivable! :cover :nono :puzzled

I was pleased to see how he remained focused in getting past Raonic. If he can do that again, I think he will win.

Stringing together one good week after another, the way you're saying, may be at some point further in the future. But with some of the older guys showing a marked drop in form, it's possible he starts to make his climb now. I wouldn't mine sooner than later.

You're probably right, nehmeth, in that a more reasonable--but still positive--likelihood is that he challenges for the year-end top 10. But it could be much sooner than that.

Honestly, I was surprised (and pleased) with how well he comported himself on court against Milos. Good results come with good focus. I think if Kyrgios sees the benefits for himself, it will have a lasting affect. It's just a matter of when it really takes hold in him.
