^Donskoy played an won a challenger in Asia right after his win over Federer. He played a second one and fell on the the quarters to Blaz Kavcic, he ended up as champion, if I am not mistaken. He climbed from around #160 pre-Dubai to around #100 now.

I haven´t seen his name in the qualies for Miami, maybe he was too low ranked when they made the list. Could have fought for a WC, I guess.

Where Donskoy was ranked 6 weeks before the IW and Miami, around 160, was enough for him to get an entry into the qualies. I think he made another choice, to play in the eastern hemisphere instead.
He played in Dubai, then two back to back challengers in China, winning one of them.
This week he takes obviously a rest, after playing 3 weeks in a row.

Might as well really take advantage of his hot streak; win something that's winnable! I still can't believe how he took that match against Roger! It was so reminiscent of a match he had against Deliciamo on clay years ago; all TB's! IIRC Lopez was holding a 5-1 lead in the 3rd set TB, played some fabulous points, but butchered an overhead at the net on 1 of his MP's! He allowed Roger to come all the way back; finishing 12-10! In what happened with Donskoy, would we call that payback, justice, balancing out the odds, or Roger's deal with the Devil coming to an end? :puzzled :devil :snicker

A few surprises yesterday in R1, all pulled by up and coming Americans.
Donaldson upset Kyle Edmund and Ernesto Escobedo upset Dan Evans, scoring his first win over a top 50 ranked player.
So the two brits, got ousted by two Americans.
Also an upset from a ranking point of view, Taylor Fritz (ranked 126) defeated Pavlasek (ranked 96).

That still doesn't come close to paying Britain back for eliminating us in DC in consecutive years with players outside the top 100 at the time! How embarrassing! :nono :s :cover - - - http://fiero4251.blogspot.com/2016/08/fan-page-novak-nole-djokovic.html - -

One of my favorite young players, Andrey Rublev, just demolished Florian Mayer 6-1 6-1. I have high hopes for this kid. His next opponent is a bit tougher: Tomas Berdych. But Rublev seems due for a big breakthrough; I think he's on the verge of a big jump in the rankings and will finish the year close to the top 50.

Tiafoe won the first set and was leading 3-0 in the second, only to lose it 5-7. Now, on serve on 3rd set.

Tiafoe needs to play like ole Rafa, Federer is trying to take his food frrom his family's kitchen table. It's his only chance ..plus review the tape of Stonkosky or whatever the qualifier name was who played like it was no tomorrow in their 3rd set tiebreaker encounter.

They are going to finish the matches soon which is good because I live in the southwest of Miami and we have right now a heavy rain and storm

Fritz/Kohlschreiber might be worth a watch. Cuevas/Paire could be another. Cuevas is playing well at the moment.

Vesely needs to kick start his 2017 season.
