RE: Miami Masters 2015

I don't think it will be more matches today, we have a heavy rain and wind but tomorrow hopefully is going to be sunny and not so hot like today.
I was told and I've read that Rafa has played well, his movements much better than these past months. Hope he is finding his best game, it's about time!

Disappointing but not surprising from nico...

Almagro has great weapons, but a tendency to fall apart. And he did, in the 2nd set. Nadal, however, looks good. Obviously, movement isn't an issue, given the ankle roll the other day. And he does handle wind better than most.

Rafa is also a great wind player..something that is often overlooked.

I mentioned that. His spin helps a lot, and his mental calm, as well. He beat Murray at IW a few years back on a crazy windy day, by a big margin. But Murray figured out how to deal with wind, and I think it helped him win the USO in 2012.

Watching the replay through ESPN3, Rafa doing great shots and Almagro complaining about the wind, saying bad words and smashing his racquet, maybe he was the only one with the wind around? :snicker

Almagro's serve is often underestimated. He is actually a very good server. I don't remember the
stats off the top of my head. But, he will be in top 10 on few important serve categories, I think.

agree it is the spin and the mental approach..he was trained to overcome any obstacle..regardless....

problem solving..and being calm..the key to playing in the wind because lord knows it can drive you out of your mind. you have to accept you are not going to play your best. period. just play less bad than the other guy/gal.

Nadal and Federer are probably the two best wind players out there. Murray is up there too. As for Djokovic, he has improved his tennis play under the wind but if he plays those three players under a windy conditions, he will be in trouble.

I think another important thing in playing in windy conditions is footwork. If you have great footwork, you will excel in playing under windy conditions. Nadal, Federer, and Murray's footwork during windy conditions is beautiful to watch. It's like they are gliding with the wind...

Great point made by all, playing in very windy conditions is a painful

Yeah I noticed that he was a year or two back. Top 10 servers had your Andersons, Isners and Raonic, with Almagro up in there too looking rather out of place.

An American wins a 25 shot rally? Sock goes up a mini-break against Fog in the first set tiebreak.

Sock won in straight sets. There seems to be a different level of maturity in this young man, after he came back from the surgery layoff.
I also heard that his brother was facing some life threatening illness, and Jack was dedicating his win to his brother at IW.
It is clear that when you face suddenly adversities in your young life, the process of maturity will be expedited and you will skip some phases in the process.
Not to speak about his success in doubles surely plays a big role also as a confidence builder.
I just hope USA media will not jump on his back with the hype machine.

^ In fairness a 15 year old winning 2 matches at a Masters 1000 (CiCi Bellis) is worthy of attention.

Great to see Sock get another good win! He plays Thiem next. Could win that one. He's getting close to finally cracking the Top 40. Would be great to see him go against Wawrinka in the 4th round.
