Just tuned in and it's over. Straight sets for the bull 6-3, 6-4. What happened to this difficult match we were promised?

I haven't seen the match but I see a good result by Nadal. It seems he is on right track and determined to win this tournament. Wise decision to withdraw the doubles and to focus more in the singles

It's like Monfils cares more about being remembered for Youtube highlights of acrobatics than he does about winning matches. :nono The guy could do so much more than he has done if he'd just stop acting the idiot. I didn't even watch this btw but used to seeing him doing dumb stuff in matches often while ahead and just losing it stupidly. He did a trick shot against Haas at Halle a few years back and Haas was behind and came back and won it thanks to Monfils theatrics losing him his lead and composure. Other times he seemingly checks out of matches and gives up like against Murray at RG last year. The 5th set took around 10 mins with Monfils basically giving up for no apparent reason having just won sets 3 and 4. He's a certified loon.

Didn't watch, but from the highlights, Nadal looked decent. He looks like he's trying to figure out ways to hit his slice (and it's inconsistent as a result. He's trying to get under the ball less than usual) and the forehand down the line still drops short but he looks like he's playing with confidence.

Troiki has won the first set against Cilic. If Troiki wins, that would be an easy final for Rafa. He can increase his 250 Trophy collection.

Good tournament for Troicki and Cilic either way. Battle of the silent ban v the actual ban. That is dope, man.

Troiki defeats Marin Cilic to reach the Stuttgart final. It his second final this year. He won Sydney at the start of the year.

Nadal leads Troiki 4-0 and their last meeting was in 2010 Tokyo.

Knowing Nadal's level this year, I wouldn't be surprised if he plays an abysmal final but I really hope he wins the title so he can gain some confidence and momentum going into Wimbledon.

One more would give him 9, which would only get him a little way towards catching Roger's haul of 24-250s, but that would be a nice bonus. ;) I just hope Rafa continues with his increasingly better form and confidence. There isn't really pressure to win this one.

I'm watching the replay now. (Watched some of the live match on the couch with eyes closed.) This is unfair to Monfils, especially since you didn't watch the match. Unfair on Nadal, too, as you assume that Gael simply muppeted it. He didn't make any shots that looked like grandstanding or showing off, and he hit some beautiful winners. He also served very well. Nadal was just better.

EDIT: Ok, in fairness, Monfils did just DF to give Nadal BP, and then hotdogged/blew a volley to give over the break. But that was the only incidence.

Wow, watching the replay Monfils has played well, he tried everything he knows and he can but Nadal has been much better player. No dubts about he is getting more and more confidence. The nightmares is starting for his detractors :snicker

Well it's either unfair or your eyes see things differently as a Nadal fan 'cos Murat already stated the clown version of Monfils turned up (see below) as is so often the case. And what you described there may only be one incidence but he lost serve thanks to that so clearly he was not playing sensibly or well.
