Wow, watching the replay Monfils has played well, he tried everything he knows and he can but Nadal has been much better player. No doubts about he is getting more and more confidence. The nightmares is starting for his detractors :snicker

Some nightmare alright. He might win a 250 event :snicker We won't lose too much sleep.

:p I restrained myself earlier, but I find it desperate when Nadal fans are almost giddy about him acquiring a 250 tourney and the points! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

I doubt you find giddiness in the Nadal fanbase. It's basically cautious optimism because he's playing well. That's fair enough, right? It's a 250...a tune-up. The point of the extra week was for players to get to play more grass tennis. Show me the 500 or 1000 that was available this week to be played. So there's really no reason to sneer. A few of you who have no horse in the race have been paying rapt attention to how Nadal has been playing this week, and now that he's playing well, you're not the only one to put Stuttgart down as a mere 250.

It seems like someone has taken the hint :snicker
I don't care if the tournament is 250 or 5000, I really care to see Nadal playing better against players which can give trauble to anyone and to see that he is playing more aggressive and with more enthusiasm than these last months and I hope he continues playing better and better the rest of the year ;)

How kind and understanding of you, Fiero! Thanks for your careful and empathetic reading of my post. :ras:

People tend to accuse others where they're describing their own anxieties. If he's no longer a threat on grass, and this in "only" a 250, why are you people even bothering? Obviously, Rafa finding his form back on grass would not suit some folks. I'm beginning to suspect that some of you are more nervous than you'll admit.

It's jus a "250" but there are 186 replies and 2.527 views, but wait....the tourney has not finished yet
Nadal always brings a lot of people to the Stadium and also a lot of posters too for good or for bad ;)
But it's just a "250", come on, why so much attention? :snicker

I got no dog in this hunt! If Nole wins because I see this as his time; more power to him! If Fed can turn back the clock and make this W his swan song and even out his majors to 18 I wouldn't be unhappy! Andy's had his time in the lime light and every one knows my animus towards Rafa and his ugly game! I'm more vested in Hingis comeback in doubles! She was my last real favorite; really enjoying her chessboard style of tennis! :popcorn  :dodgy:

I have to say, I think Carol's got you there. You have no dog in the hunt, except you named 3, none of whom are playing in this tournament, and you reminded us of how much you dislike Nadal. So you're really only on this thread to slag him off. That could be just animus, but I detect a note of fear....:popcorn

Do whatever you gotta do to get through this awful period! I saw it coming to be sure! You can't work as hard as Rafa for so many matches over the years! It's 1 thing to get extended by the other members of "The Big 4," but Nadal allows everyone to take him to the limit! When Nole plays extra sets, looks more like practice he's looking for! Both have put on a lot of miles, but Nole's flexibility will extend his career well past his other rivals IMO! :nono  :dodgy:

From what I've seen of his matches, Nadal is playing much better than I expected. Maybe just getting off the clay, getting rid of all that pressure building up to the French Open has set him free. "He's got nothing to lose", it seems like a silly thing to say, but in a way he doesn't. His ranking can't fall much further and he has almost nothing left to defend this year. He'll probably get his ranking back up to 4 or 5 I think by the end of the year.

The Nadal fans on Twitter saying he's a favorite for Wimbledon now are just annoying and silly though. Let's see how he does in London first before we start proclaiming him grass king. :snicker

What are you talking about, are you watching tennis or something else? first at all I was not talking about Novak but now that you have named him at least say something real and objective.
Practice of what? but yep, thanks to that flexibility (he practices a lot of yoga) his body is still in one piece, otherwise with that ugly movements of his legs and all the effort he is doing is very amazing that
his body has not divided in two or three or four parts :nono
Desperate bc Nadal has beaten your fav many times when he was at his best years
Desperate thinking that Nadal could reach or surpass the "17"
Desperate waiting for Novak or someone else could stop him
Desperate thinking that Nadal can recovery his EXCEPCIONAL game and confidence
Desperate because you don't like tennis but just one player......sad

The same annoying and silly of Federer's fans thinking that he is favorite in Wimbledon (I've read it on Twitter too and other blogs) and Novak's fans in RG
There is still a long way to go there, nobody knows who is going to win or to lose, but the fans always are pulling for their fav, nothing new :nono

What time is the final , eastern standard time please

It's not reliable considering they started semi's a half hour late today; my TCC shows final should start 8 pm EDT! It all depends on what I hear about the match determining if I bother! Enjpy!! :popcorn  :dodgy:

It's like Monfils cares more about being remembered for Youtube highlights of acrobatics than he does about winning matches. :nono The guy could do so much more than he has done if he'd just stop acting the idiot. I didn't even watch this btw but used to seeing him doing dumb stuff in matches often while ahead and just losing it stupidly. He did a trick shot against Haas at Halle a few years back and Haas was behind and came back and won it thanks to Monfils theatrics losing him his lead and composure. Other times he seemingly checks out of matches and gives up like against Murray at RG last year. The 5th set took around 10 mins with Monfils basically giving up for no apparent reason having just won sets 3 and 4. He's a certified loon.

I'm watching the replay now. (Watched some of the live match on the couch with eyes closed.) This is unfair to Monfils, especially since you didn't watch the match. Unfair on Nadal, too, as you assume that Gael simply muppeted it. He didn't make any shots that looked like grandstanding or showing off, and he hit some beautiful winners. He also served very well. Nadal was just better.

EDIT: Ok, in fairness, Monfils did just DF to give Nadal BP, and then hotdogged/blew a volley to give over the break. But that was the only incidence.

Well it's either unfair or your eyes see things differently as a Nadal fan 'cos Murat already stated the clown version of Monfils turned up (see below) as is so often the case. And what you described there may only be one incidence but he lost serve thanks to that so clearly he was not playing sensibly or well.

http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3972&pid=189190#pid189190

Did you watch the match? If not, shut up. You don't see me analyzing Monfils' performance because I didn't watch the match.

Hello, I m Nadal fan:)...
It is more about gaining the confidence and the form back.
Ranking and points will keep coming and going. They are of not of much importance.

Firstly, thanks for telling me to shut up. Always nice. Secondly, Murat stated Monfils was his usual clown self which pretty much tells you which version of Monfils turned up. I watched highlights and saw plenty of his usual fire the crowd up antics like jumping and diving but again, thanks for telling me to shut up.
