Rafa is looking good on grass, and of course, he's already defended 250 of his 370 post-RG points from last season... :clap

Calm down folks. Good result for Rafa---but he beat a bunch of tomato cans (Monfils CAN play but chose to be a clown instead). Remember after he won a 250 clay tournie in South America, many on these boards announced he "was back", and then.......Let's see how he does at Queen's Club with the Big Boys before drawing any conclusions.

I doubt anyone is getting carried away, but by the same token, given his struggles since his return, it would be churlish to deny this as being anything but a positive week for Rafa...

Yep, the same tomato cans if in Halle, Monfils also would chose to be a clown lol ( but not if he would lose against Roger :snicker) Tomic, Karlovic and Gulbis (oops I forgot that according to himself he is the best player of the world) another :snicker

For sure it's a positive week for Nadal and fans. I'm no fan of him but his serve was excellent today in particular.

Serve looking sharp. Movement looking sharp. Return looking decent.

The worrying thing is the god awful slice in which he immediately concedes the offensive the moment he plays it (a few years back he had managed to use it really well on grass), and his inability to turn defense into attack off the backhand. If the opponent hits an aggressive shot, Nadal is unable to muster up a decent response on that side.

Positive signs though.

Nadal doesn't understand how to slice , he slices into the middle of the court which doesn't do anything but puts him in horrible defensive position. He needs to slice the ball down the line or cross court.

His slice has way too much net clearance so it sits up there like a sitting duck. Definitely would benefit from hitting it flatter.

Rafa's technique when he slices is flawed, he doesn't keeps his head still and allows his arms to go through the ball. Feli and Federer techniques are pretty tech book. He should reference some old Johnnie Mac's video s, IMO

What post implied that we aren't?

Lacatch's post is like Fiero's who claimed Nadal fans were "giddy." I explained we were feeling cautiously optimistic. I don't know why we need to be reminded to keep a sense of perspective when we clearly have one, and why we can't have a little bit of enjoyment over this small win. IMO the folks who aren't calm are the ones that thought they'd seen the last of Rafa.

Moxie I never said anything about "giddy". I'm not taking your usual bait to start a contretemps, especially when this is a tempest in a teacup. I'm confident you'll have no problem finding your next jousting partner.

I said that "giddy" was Fiero's word. And it was Broken who asked you "who implied that we aren't" calm. Joust with him.

The best defense is a surrealistic offense.
