That third set and the beginning of the fourth the court wasn't clay but a big puddle, at least they decided to stop the match a little bit and to dry the court otherwise they could have practiced surfing instead tennis :rain:

Even as a Borg fan,I was delighted that my countryman Panatta defeated him in Rome, not being biased of course,Rome tournament has so much history surrounding it,one of the must see clay tournaments to attend.

I could be wrong, but IIRC, Borg won that match in Rome in 5 sets! Those classless fans actually threw coins on the court; SO DISrespectful of Borg! Panatta didn't do or say anything! Adriano did defeat Borg in Paris twice; the only losses Borg had @ the FO winning 6 of 8 years! :)

Me too, Nadal vs Novak final third set now, it was a good match
Rafa pulls off the victory..the 7 RG title..surely he can’t surpass that number:lol6:..

Really...that was low rent by the idiot fan to yell before Novak’s serve..I hope the Serbian fans went to find him and cane his dumbass.. I want Rafa to win but not by Novak serving a double fault.

Fed fans not much better after "their act" at Wimbledon last year! It was great Novak could just smile and laugh it off, but I'd have to do more than make them hurt by beating their man in a match that will be regarded as one of the best; probably to rival final in '08! It's been made all the more memorable by TB end! :partying-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Oops it was the s/final in Rome that Panatta won not the final,my bad,Borg did defeat him in 5 sets,61 36 16 64 36.,yep he did defeat Borg twice at RG.

Regarding the coins they could have been thrown into the Trevi Fountain for good luck:)

To be clear...you throw coins in the Trevi fountain to assure that you will return to Rome again. :)

Not always,it is also used for 3 wishes and good luck, maybe to return to Rome, though beware of pick pockets in that area:)

I think Novak was wrong to blame the crowd. It's his job to be concentrated in extremis in a match. For the record, he has DF'd on match point against in 3 finals against Rafa. So it's not all the crowd. That's pressure.

The RG 2008 final is a great watch in current times! Amazing tennis display by Rafa but also the match is very short allowing extra time to catch the news about coronavirus. :popcorn

Watched the rerun of the 2011 RG men's final. Not completely sure what @calitennis127 was on about that Roger should have won it. (Oh, right, he had a good run early, but that's not the whole match, now, is it?) What he always ignores is what Nadal does, as if it means nothing. Good match, though.

Cali's tennis no pun intended is practical with the exception of Nadal.

Laver versus Rosewall, circa 1970 Dunlop International, Sydney
Just look at these two, still a “clinic”

RG 2014 final for me is one of the best pure ball striking matches..Stan was a pure beast and really took the fight to Novak..It's the best and really the only way to defeat Novak on all of the surfaces..I haven't seen AO 2020 final between Novak and Dominic but Stan really provides the blueprint to defeat Novak.IMO

I only saw the last few games of the rerun, but I do remember that as one of Stan's best matches.

Oh it was more than one of his best, Stan was Brilliant..if I was Rafa's coaching team..I would sit him down and try to incorporate some of the positives from that match in regards to Stan's hitting.. Obviously Rafa's ball has a ton more TopSpin but my point is Stan was the agressor..

Stan that day was in god mode. I think nobody will ever repeat the amount of insane backhand winners he produced that day, he was sweeping the lines

Whereas Novak has been Roger’s titles gatekeeper vs Nadal.,the same can be said about Stan..aka Rafa’s titles gatekeeper vs Novak..
