WOW !!! LOOK-a Here !!!!

It's 1977 semifinal #2, (Jimmy Connors won the first semi-final defeats McEnroe in 4, and booked a spot in the final) this one features Vitas Gerulaitis vs the King and defending champion, Bjorn Borg.

This one match must go down as the finest example of lawn tennis you could wish to watch, even now !!! To me, grass court was the best form of tennis you could wish to see, from that era and for a number of years since.

Back then the game was not about POWER (as it would later become) it was a combo of skills, some power some finese , mental toughness and
anticipation like guessing your opponents choice of play before they even hit their shot. This one match embodies all these tactics.

Lets hope they'll put up the 1977 final soon.

In fact, the All England Lawn Tennis and Crochet Club should do ALL OF BJORN BORG'S Wimbly finals including 1981 - and not Editing either

HEYYYY , Looka Here :astonished-face:

It's the 2001 final with thrice runner-up Goran Ivanisevic taking on 2000 runner up Patrick Rafter. This was a monday final played in front of evenly divided Croats and Aussie supporters. Atmosphere was electric, never heard a Wimbly crowd quite like it. This was the kind of a final that was a shame there had to be a winner. Also check out the binaural audio, with commentary on one channel only.

and the two players almost never made it to the final that year, with Ivanisevic down two sets to one in his semifinal to Tim Henman. The match was rain interrupted at that point and when it resumed on the saturday, Goran won the 4th and 5th sets. Rafter i think was 1-3 down vs Agassi in his semifinal , then 4-5 down with Agassi serving for the match, came back from the dead to win, 8-6 in the fifth. Extraordinary year at the Big W.

It had it all in '01; comebacks, upsets, and of course Federer & Sampras in the 4th Round! Pete was in the middle of a malaise which kept him winless for over 2 years from his victory at Wimbledon the previous season over Rafter and his win over pigeon, Andre Agassi in the final of the 2002 USO!

^^^I wonder why? :lol6: Those Aussie and Wimbledon losses must be painful; esp. 5:53! It'll be a classic, but probably not worth watching for some for obvious reasons! :)

Well i had hoped the United States Tennis Association would have listened to me and put up ALL of McEnroe vs Connors 1980 Semifinal particularly being the 40th anniversary edition (ie i posted my comments on their 2001 Agassi vs Sampras Quarters where they asked "Is this the Greatest U.S. Open Tennis match of All Time?).

It hasn't happened yet !!! But am very pleased to find the 1984 semi (another barnburner) is available, so that will have to do - for now ! This was one of three matches from Tennis 'Longest Day' -

I just watched the replay of Medvedev d. Djokovic in last year's Cincy SF. He had such a good run of tennis last summer. Like everyone else, I'll be looking to see how he comes back to tennis in this year's iteration of the Gulf and Western, which I think sort of starts tomorrow.
