A bit of an outlier... Roddick v El Aynaoui, AO 2003

Summary

Match

No No No..BB...that wasn't a good tennis by Roddick and El Aynaoui...IMO...if you recall, Roddick disrupted Aynaoui service game by giving his racket to the ball kids to play...If I have it correct, he finally got broken and Roddick won that match..No No...not a good tennis match. IMO

I agree! Compared to Nadal this was a horrible match!

Yes it was.. There's not many if any rallies longer than 35 strokes ..I thought it was some slick gamesmanship by Roddick especially waiting until afterwards his service game was complete..He gave his racket to the ball kids and his opponent finally looses his serve....

Glad you posted this one. I remember watching it as a teenager. This match was full of drama and had me glued to the screen. I felt so sorry for Aynaoui that day. I was rooting for him.

Plenty of drama and excitement.

No it's wasn't fantastic tennis but a classic choke job by Coria..If you want a classic clay court match..Rafa Vs Coria Rome Masters 2005..
I actually watched that match again recently ago, and it is a beauty of classic clay tennis, you are correct. Seemed almost old-fashioned, watching one clay great play another. The 2006 v. Roger is also a great match, but of a very different and more modern ilk.

I've never seen it, and have just started watching it, but it exists in tennis lore as a mythic match. Thanks @britbox for posting it.

In my opinion that match was between the two best clay courters of all time..That match signal the end of the Great Guillermo Coria and the Rise of the King..
Actually, Rafa scared the living shit out of Federer for almost the 2nd time in a row at Miami a few weeks earlier..
Even the early days against Novak especially when it was finals Sunday, Rafa had a nice lead over him. The Legend of Rafa was just beginning.

Most matches do not have 35 strokes rallies, and certainly not many.

A) What a weird arbitrarily dumb criteria.

B) Your bias against Roddick is borderline clueless.

C) Please, just one time, make a post that isn't crinnge.

Anti Puisher really is Joe Biden. He's always been off and a little clueless but he's really lost it these days.

Tented how did Rafa loose that 3 set at RG to Roger. He should have closed out the match in 3 sets. The sun has left and the wind is starting to bring the rain.. Damn.. .Now I am getting nervous and will have to delay my morning run. . SMH2

I am rewatching RG 2012. :):astonished-face::):lol6::lol6::back-arrow:

Borg was a fave of mines as well, but I wouldn't say all his matches were that entertaining! He had his moments against Connors and McEnroe, but just because a match goes 5 sets doesn't mean it was worth watching again! I still remember walking out of a FO final in '74 he was having against Orantes! He was down 0-2, but I knew Bjorn would drag it out and win eventually! I was being called out to play so I left mid-match! I can't imagine doing that these days, but back then, things were more predictable! BTW, Borg won in 5 sets fairly easily; 2-6, 6-7, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1! There were some players he literally owned like Vilas, Gerulaitis, The Bagel Twins (Solomon/Dibbs), and Connors late which rarely got my heart palpitating even when down! :face-with-hand-over-mouth:
OMG

The Bagel twins! Weren’t they like 5’5” tall? Little retrieving scrappers on the court , and yes I mean that as a compliment...
