Wow, aside from the transgressions, no wonder Gimelstob got fired. He just said this: "Both are excellent wind players, but because Djokovic's strokes are cleaner, they hit through the wind better." Huh?? That is not, and never has been true.

If you had a drink every time Gimelstob said something asinine or stupid you would you be lying in a drunken stupor within hours.

If I had to drink every time someone said, across the years, that Djokovic lost that match on the blown smash in the 3-1(?) game, I'd be in the gutter, too. It's a common, but false "true-ism" about that match.

Nadal d. Federer RG 2011 is on TC right now. @calitennis127 thinks this was a winnable match for Roger. I do remember it could surely have gone 5. Will be interesting to revisit it.

This is a bit of snark, but @Front242 : They replayed the 2017 Federer d. Wawrinka SF at AO today, and guess what? When Roger lost the 4th set, he took a MTO, off-court. And he took a MTO when he lost the 4th to Rafa in the final there. Like he took that MTO when he lost the 4th to Dimitrov at last year's USO. And v. Safin in the AO SF 2005, after he lost the 4th set. Sense a pattern? I'm just saying, since Front keeps bringing up every MTO and bathroom break Rafa has ever taken. :p

I can replay 2019 AO final in my head over and over again! That was a true masterpiece of being "in the zone" and everything working for Djokovic that day! I think it helped he was playing his closest rival in Rafa! He wasn't playing in "God-Mode" until that final IMO! Lucky for us 2019 AO being featured on Tennis Channel today so I can watch it again! :yahoo:

I guess you need something to pacify emotions when destroyed like that! Hold onto "your stats" for as long as you can! When we get back to playing, I think Nole's run will continue while Rafa's joints will probably seize and lock up! He needs competitive play to keep that sad and pathetic game of his well oiled and ready to deal with the NG'rs who're right on his arse! :angry-face:

You should be cautious mentioning the next-genners, because it's Nole who has the worst record of the 3 against them. The trope of Nadal needing match play is pretty way old. How kind of you to wish him ill, huh? You can call his game "sad and pathetic," if you like, but it mostly makes you just look ridiculous. That game has gotten him 19 Majors and counting, plus he still has the most MS 1000s. There's really nothing "sad" or "pathetic" about his career. Try again.

I'm so glad that I'm ignoring that Fiero, his comments usually are sooooooo silly and with so much hater and because your replay I see he doesn't change, ugh!

It’s 29-26, last 10 years Novak leads everything also slam h2h.
Hard to say who benefits the most from this break, we will see. But for me it’s reassuring to know who is the better player of these two!
I guess you know this too
;).

there is a difference between taking MTO before your opponent serves for the match and after finishing a set, cant be that hard to understand even for a PC rat. Oh I forgot, that's just how you chuck an argument.

might actually need to remind you that, even as non fan of both, Nadal played exceptionally bad that day. He was tentative and just plain bad, even whiffed a forehand totally when playing on a perfect surface which never happened before.....stop trying to sell us the 'Novak played like God' bs.

Yeah that’s one of my favorite matches of the recent past.
Actual, even more satisfying to me, is the AO Final 2020, even though he played worse than against Nadal.

Who cares about the Australian open, it is far behind the other 3 slams. The US open will always be the #1 Hardcourt tournament of the world and the most legendary one. The AO cannot be put in the same category.

When we count how many slams each of the big three players have won between the big three slams RG (#1 clay), W (#1 grass) and USO (#1 hardcourt), it is:

Nadal = 18
Federer = 14
Djokovic = 9

Also in the biggest hardcourt tournament of the world Nadal leads Djokovic 4-3 in titles and 2-1 in h2h.

Right now, on Eurosport, they are showing the AO Final 2017.
5th set at the moment, very good match, worth to rewatch.
The better player won!

Unexpected 5th set, usually Roger loses these kind of matches, at least against Novak.
Poor Nadal was so hopeful after being a break in front.
But roger played great, especially with his BH.

Federer definitely gained some dignity back after finally beating (and barely) Nadal in a slam for the first time in 10 years. Can you guys imagine? 10 years! Lol

Poor uncle Toni, his face showed how badly he wanted that win. I feel sorry for his pretty wife.
