Ugh. Because tennis arguments aren't unbearable enough?

Agree. Let's limit the royalty arguments to king of clay, king of grass and so on...;)

Ok.

It was an impressive win by Murray, his backhand looked great so did his defence. I think he's the number two player in the world now, followed by Berdych.

I was with you until that very last part, which is ludicrous.

Murray can't play out of his mind even if he wanted to since Nadal can't keep the ball in play. So it's a moot point really.

Also, a question to the board: Do we still have to wait for the FO to determine if Nadal is past his prime? I mean, he'll be ranked number 7 in the world after this match. Would winning the FO again somehow nullify everything we've seen for the past 15 months or so?

i agree..it wouldn't nullify last 15 months..even if rafa somehow won French open he's still way past his prime.

Didn't Cilic win the USO been the x ranked?
We don't have a crystal ball so we'll see what is happening in the next tournament and RG

Not seeing the match, I am very surprised by the outcome. I was expecting a tighter match than usual between them on clay, but this seems like a game changer.
Good for Andy, bad for Rafa.

hurrah and huzzah for "iconofclayandy" for continuing to be a clay icon this year..10-0 (?).

zero clay titles in 10yrs 1month of tennis then 2 clay titles in 6 days.

rafa was rubbish though. his speed/movement around the court has diminished a fair bit.

we were talking about the past not the future.

you don't need a crystal ball to see nadals level in last 15months..you need to be connected to reality.

I wonder what will happen to Nadal fans if he loses at the French Open. Maybe TTF should open up a 24-hour counseling hotline. :snicker

No, we needed counseling and our fainting couches after the loss in 2009. Now, most of us are probably in the realistically-optimistic range. I didn't see the match, and catching up with a bit of it now.

I'm sorry today's match wasn't more competitive, but I'm pleased for Andy, as I think validation on clay has been long coming. (I always thought he had the background and overall chops to do better on dirt.) And how nice that he's made so many new fans here, from what I've read along the thread.

I would say if he would lose the FO maybe TTF should open up a 24hour for the comments of his haters :snicker :lolz: :ras:

Before the match today he said he could see himself out of the fifth first players (premonition and realistic?)
But nothing is impossible. Federer was #6 ranked in 2013. Later he didn't have to defend almost any points and he got the #2
I still hope that Rafa can win RG but anyway after that tournament he will not have any points to defense in Wimbledon, none in any HC tournament and USO, London, AO and the next tournaments and he still will be 29 and probably more healthy than these last years

Everybody has their faves; and a handful of players they can't stand! Heaven knows I can tell you exactly why I "hate" on some! I should set up a thread so people can purge their souls! "Please absolve me of 'hating' on Connors, McEnroe, Becker, Agassi, Nadal, & Chang!" Each of these players rubbed me the wrong way from the start! With Agassi, it was "image is everything" before winning a tourney of any significance! :cover :nono

Yes there is difference in criticizing or disliking a player and being a hater. God knows, Rafa has enough fans to defend him, so there is no need to invoke him as a victim of dislike.

With over 14 million followers on facebook alone, it's pretty comical when someone invokes the "hater" card.
