I wonder what's the odds for Paris now? Andy is positioning himself nicely.

I'm not too discouraged or downhearted. The cliche goes, it was a bad day at the office. Last year's Madrid final was similarly poor until Samurai went lame. Lots of work ahead for Rafa, but he's good at that part. But this is a great breakthrough for Murray. When did he last win an MS title? Before his operation, I think. So far this season, Denis is spot on: Andy is the main contender in the rankings with Nole. Finally the rivaly between them might ignite - though Andy needs a few wins against Nole again to make it happen. Hasn't beaten him, either, since before the operation...

Nole 10/11
Rafa 11/4
Andy 9/1
Kei 18/1
RF 30/1

Predictably, today's result has seen Nole and Andy move towards being more favoured with Rafa and everyone else being perceived as less likely to succeed.

fed shouldnt even be listed imo. berdychs been doing better than him on clay tbh

Fed will always get a champions premium and rightly so

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but it occurred to me Rafa has now lost the Madrid final to every member of the Big Four. So much for home country advantage.

Since it's Mothers day, I honored her with my visit today as Murat suggested. While we were watching the match she asked me what happened to Nadal.
Keep in mind the fact that she barely watches tennis at all, and asked me why isn't Fed in the final.
Just when you think he is improving steadily The Bull rams into a wall, and the Maestro has lost the magic in his Wilson wand.
It's a bit sad.

Well, now that your dear old mom has spotted it, I'm suddenly becoming petrified for poor Rafa... :devil

EDIT: happy mother's Day to her, and all mothers... :hug

Just woke up (4:30 a.m.), expecting a Nadal victory and 'bout fell out of bed when I saw the beat-down Murray gave Nadal! Way to go Murray!

First ever Masters clay title.
10th Masters title.
33rd ATP tournament title.
First win against Fedalovic since he beat Djokovic at '13 Wimby.

So much good to come from this win. Still he needs to beat Djokovic somewhere but we'll think about that tomorrow. So happy for him. This Bjorkman coaching just may be doing him some good, although I'm not sure how much effect ti has had on his game since they just started. Definitely thankful that he moved away from Mauresmo though.

I raise a glass to my fellow Murray fans to celebrate! Congrats TF7! :celeb:

I doubt that. The SNP party actually wants to maintain the monarchy I believe.

Is it OK to dislike Novak for being wanting to come off like an orthodox figure then?

Sure. I'm not opposed to religion.

No. Not "sure" at all. It would actually be pretty ignorant/judgmental of my part to hate an athlete just because of their religious beliefs.

Mauresmo was in the coaches box today, so she should be getting the credit (obviously in addition to Murray)!

You do realize how bad of a performance it has to be for someone who doesn't even casually watch tennis to notice it? At least I am not stressed about it anymore, I have accepted it.

He's been a lot more smiley this week after each win, rather than the intense "come on" you often see from him.

Very clearly, he is feeling very content with his life right now and it has been to his benefit in the last two weeks.

There is still a place for the intensity though, when things aren't going right you still need that fire. Andy has never lacked in this department and, certainly, there's often a bit too much of it, but perhaps during the off court honeymoon period, he will learn lessons about the benefits to his tennis of just being a little bit more relaxed under certain circumstances, and go forward in his career with a more balanced demeanor on the court.

Wishful thinking? You bet!

why?

what did you expect him to say? Viva la republic? Jeepers...

Uhm no.

He can just refrain from saying that kind of slimy sh!t.

If you dislike athletes for brown-nosing all the appropriate people during an acceptance speech you'll struggle to support anyone.

I'll respond to this because you got quite some support for your comment. I don't disagree with what you say, but it's clear that you are misrepresenting my argument. I don't like monarchists. I think it is stupid in this day and age to support a political system that formally institutionalizes inequality on the basis of birth.

I don't struggle to support tennis players. I like the sport, and I like a fair amount of the players that play professionally, even if they have stupid beliefs or habits. I do not, however, like Murray, mainly because I do not like his attitude on court. The fact that he is a monarchist adds to this.

I respect your views on the inequality part and agree personally.

However, the Spanish royalty was an honored guest at the match. When Djokovic wins at Wimbledon I'm sure he pays his compliments to whoever is representing the British royal family in the royal box out of respect. Does this mean he is a monarchist? Does merely thanking the Spanish royal family for coming to watch him play tennis at the biggest Spanish tennis tournament in a country that loves tennis make Andy Murray a monarchist? If he is, he was a monarchist before that comment anyway so it doesn't change anything.

And even if he is a monarchist, why is that a reason to dislike him? Do you dislike everyone who has different political views to yourself?

Onto Rome! The draw there is about as tough as Madrid! Nole has Kei and Andy in his half of the draw! Rafa has his usual pigeons including Roger, Stan, and Eric! Nadal has to win Rome after being runner-up at Madrid! He's likely to drop out of the top 7 in the WORLD unless he goes deep into the draw IMO:

I sure as hell would not like it if Djokovic would suck up to the British royal familty that's for sure.

Murray can say whatever he wants, but don't expect me to like him for it. And as I said, being a supporter of royalism is a clear minus in my book. I have friends that are royalists and don't think I don't let them know my views.
