Laver Cup schedule for day one

Afternoon:

Cilic vs Tiafoe
Thiem vs Isner

Evening

Zverev vs Shapovalov
Rafa/Berdych vs Kyrgios/Sock

Dang...my guess about the first day's doubles was wrong! Oh well...still think a Fedal doubles team will happen. Maybe it'll be the finale on Day 3. Still gotta give the people what they're paying for...

I'm going to disagree. I think they'll play doubles together - and possibly the doubles match on Friday. The first day's matches are only worth 1 point each, so if they lose that's only 1 point the team loses. The 2nd day' points are 2 points for each match, the 3rd day it's 3 points for each match. So why not put your two weakest singles players on day 1 and let Roger and Nadal have their "same side of the net" bonding moment when it's worth the least amount of points? Added to that - people are buying tickets to see Roger and Nadal - so give 'em what they're paying for...

Funny, looks like you are worried about Roger and Rafa losing the doubles match and so you are putting them on day 1 when there is less to lose. :lulz2:Even Roger and Stan were good enough to win OG beating out established pairs with lots of chemistry. No way, Roger and Rafa would lose. You are unbelievable.

Gimelstob and Austin are betting they'll play doubles together, and they picked Sat.

Don't underestimate the Rest of World team. Shapo and others can cause upsets. Thiem is always beatable. Kyrgios is another asset if he is fired up.
Kyrgios and Sock are a good doubles team, too. Fedal should be pleased not to be playing doubles tomorrow.

I think what's more historic than the prospect that Roger and Rafa being on the team and potentially paired in doubles
For this weekend that Front, Darth, Miss Carol and myself will all be on the same team.... That's just WRONG!:lol6:

I'm having a hard time going for a "team," and not still choosing matches per player. I want Tiafoe to beat Cilic tomorrow. And I almost favor Kyrgios/Sock over Nadal/Berdych. The match everyone is interested in will be Zverev/Shapalov.

Question, has Berdych played doubles before?

He and Stepanek won a couple of Davis Cups as a one-two punch, including as doubles partners. Though, you could argue that Stepanek was the stronger doubles player, given his net skills.

True, I remember now, of course Stepanek was the best doubles player but I suppose Berdych helped him well too

Stepanek is still off tour since his lower back surgery. Hoping he'll return healthy in 2018.

Bad back and those hot chicks on the women's tour...it will be a miracle if he make it back into to top 200, IMO

You're kidding right? It started this morning @ 5:30 am EDT, with replay going on now on the TCC! Tomorrow it'll start @ 6 am! :cheerleader:
Thanks mate. I was not not following this Laver thing, and it looks like the tennis equivalent of the Ryder Cup.

Yeah, I believe it to be a bi-yearly event with the current and past stars of the game! I can do without seeing Borg and McEnroe hobble around the court though! I just hope not to hear about these spoiled athletes whining about being tired and worn down when the tournaments start to count at the Masters of Shanghai, Paris, and the YEC! :nono:   :ptennis:
