Instead of fining him, they should make him sit (unpaid) a few games too.

The most talented player of all time according to Cali. He is the Nalbandian of the NBA!

You have got to be kidding me.. JR Smith isnt a top 30 NBA player inclluding the players that are injured(Kobe, Drose and Westbrook).

JR is just a journeyman player who occasionally have long distance range...there is still quite a few college players who are better than him.

Cali said it. He also mentioned that Chris Paul is incredibly slow and it is a conspiracy by the coaches around the league to make him look good :puzzled. J.R. Smith has the potential to be as good as anyone apparently. I correctly predicted that he was a big fan of Ricky Davis, what a shock :clap

Well, he was the 6th. man of the year last year and since there are 150 starters in the NBA, he would be the 151st. best player...:snigger. I know horrible way to judge a player.
He has some game though...not a lot, but some...Just not too bright a player.

As I stated on the tennis forum thread months ago, its very obvious that Cali never "played" the game.. however, at that time I was referring to tennis but now I would include basketball.. Chris Paul is very smart basketball player who position himself perfectly to compensate for extreme cat like (Jordan, Kobe, Dwade or Lbj) type quickness..Look at the top assist guys of all time, (KIDD, Stockton, Magic), none of those guys were quick. Trust me this isnt to bash Cali.. but its coming from someone who has played on the same court with KG and Ronnie Fields when they were in Chicago.. Chris Paul is a basketball player

Chris Paul is probably my favorite player to watch. Amazing ball handling skills, passing, good defense, etc. Along with Lebron he is one of the best all around players in the league and the dude is far from slow. Paul has been a top 5 player in the league most of his career, conspiracy or not :)

AP,
I've never played football, tennis, basketball, golf or hockey. That doesn't mean I should think like a Neanderthal. :snigger

I don't discuss other sports because talking about tennis is time consuming enough around here, but Cali said JR Smith is the most talented player in the NBA??!?!?

Depends on what do you mean by "quick." Stockton didn't cover the court as fast as D-Rose or someone like that, but he was "quick on his feet" if that makes any sense. Meaning he had great reactions, anticipation, etc... Even someone like Steve Nash may not be quick in a 100 meter race, but the dude changes direction and creates space like no other. And yeah, Paul is an awesome point guard, I'm not sure how that's even debatable.

Also, it sucks to say, but D-Rose is never going to reach the heights he seemed to be destined for before the injury. Come next season, he would have essentially missed two full seasons in addition to the 2012 injury-plagued season in which he played a limited amount of games. Plus, the guy's game, while terrific, is not exactly smooth. He relies so much on athleticism and explosiveness. He's really going to suffer because surely he'll lose some of those attributes. He really needs to modify his style the way players do as they get older (except he'd be doing it while still very young). Meaning he can't just rely on driving to the paint as much, and use his quickness as often. Instead, he really needs to develop a better jump shot to compensate. I hope he does well next season because I love the guy.

Yes indeed. It might not have been on this forum but the one before.

Ah Ok, so it's not just his tennis opinions that are crazy... JR Smith isn't even a top 20 talent in the NBA right now.

Not even close, Cali's judgment of basketball talent is raw athleticism and the ability to make acrobatic plays and tough jump shots. It's not too different from his narrow view of tennis. I just found it hilarious that I accurately predicted that one of his favorite players is the incomparable Ricky Davis.

There is also an aesthetic element to this. JR makes his shots abruptly and dynamically, and also with powerful physical presence, and for this reason his makes carry far more weight with opponents than, say, a little wimp like Kevin Martin hitting his ugly jump shot from 16 feet.

Just out of curiosity I went back and found this comment... I see what you're talking about Darth. So it's essentially the same outrageous claims/weird logic/over emphasis on aesthetics but in a different sport with different names. Awesome. Makes me wish I was checking out NBA threads all this time. ;)

So Cali must love today's NBA. Overemphasis on athleticism instead of fundamentals. Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, etc... I bet they're more talented than "boring" Karl Malone or Hakeem.

Yeah Davis is that dumb. The look on Sloan's face in that video is priceless!

In the NBA J.R. Smith is his Nalbandian and Chris Paul appears to be his Nadal. It is always entertaining.
