I miss it, too. It's a shame there are only 10 episodes per season, but that's the trend these days. I remember shows such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, which had about 25 or so per season. Imagine how incredible GOT would be with 20+ episodes each year!
Yeah, we've been spoiled by the good old days. Just think how much more of the books they could do if there were able to make 20 episodes a year. Wow. I should go back and start watching the Star Trek series again for old times sake. TNG and Voyager were so good.
While I wish each season is longer 12-15 episodes and think that would be great, I do think this might be a case where less is more. 20 episodes a year could be easily filled given how rich the books ostensibly are (haven't read em), but I think there would be way too many plots and sub plots, characters, etc... for the average viewer to keep up with. Believe it or not, most people I talk to, including fans of show, have a hard time remembering who some secondary characters are. Plus, the show at times does have a deliberate pace, and that could be further magnified in a 20 episode season.
Even gripping storylines like the events in Castle Black/north of the wall would be extremely tedious and it would take ages before something happens, or there would be too many episodes where they just don't show you anything to where the events almost feel disconnected. If it feels like Dany's march to Westeros is taking forever, it would be worse in a 20 episode season.
I think 12 episodes would be perfect.
