I'd say the books were followed pretty closely the first 4 seasons. I read up to where the show left off at the end of season 3 and from what I read the changes in season 4 were not material. From what I've heard from people who've read all the books is that season 5 was a huge departure in many ways..

I've got all the books but not just read them yet - started the first one and will eventually plough through them but based on what I've read so far, I prefer the TV adaptation and that's fairly rare for me. I think the show is that exceptional, I couldn't care less with how they correlate to the books... the tail has started wagging the dog.

^ Totally agree. The books are great, no surprise, but I do like the TV show quite a bit more. I know I've mentioned it before but without going into detail I have liked most of the changes in the show, they've definitely added to it. And in general I think it'd be lame for the book readers if the show followed it in every way.

So fellas, who's the hottest chick on Game of Thrones?

I kind of like the red witch Melisandre.

My missus likes Jon Snow and the late Rob Stark.

Melisandre (Oh sweet lord of the light...what I wouldn't do to know if her panties are dark and full of terrors) followed by Cersei.

On the men's side, probably Rob Stark, the young wolf and true King of the North, rest his soul.

I'd go with Missandei first. That bathing scene in season 4....damn! After that I'd go with Dany. What can I say, I have a thing for blondes and powerful ladies even if the actress is a brunette :) Honorable mentions not in order: Melisandre, Ygritte, Cersei, Margaery, and Sansa (the actress is no longer jail bait so I don't feel quite as creepy here)

I realize that I just named damn near every major female character. Indicates good casting. I guess for honorable mentions I'd go Melisandre, Cersei, and Sansa. And if we are going with lesser characters I'd put Robb's deceased preggers of a wife near the top of the list.

Yeah, Ygritte was a hot cookie.

Apparently she and Kit Harington (the actor who played Jon Snow) are dating in real life. They had great chemistry on screen. I hope Jon Snow actually knows something off the set.

Well it's finally here and I caught Episode 1 today of Season 6.

I won't give any spoilers out... but I wasn't disappointed.

I thought it was very good too. I liked that they covered just about all the main plots going on right now. Usually just 1 or 2 fairly long scenes for each of them. A couple of surprises as well and the end...I don't even know what to say about that

Yeah, a very solid opener that hits on most of the issues left hanging from the previous season all the while ending on a really high note.

SPOILER ALERT - Do not read if you haven't seen Season 6 Episode 1

OK, I guess most of us have seen it by now... and I liked it. One thing I might have to revisit is the "Who is the hottest chick in Game of Thrones" answer I gave earlier (Melisandre). That anti-ageing necklace could sell billions if it was introduced on the free market.

So the main threads of the Episode...

The Dawn of Dorne...

I've read a bit of criticism of this plot line but I think it fit's fine with what we've seen. The ruling prince (Doran) is killed by Oberyn's missus and his son slain by the Sand Snake girls. I expected to see more of them in the last season... but know they are firmly in the mix. I don't think it's a surprise... The Dornish are obviously vengeful when writing wrongs.... and they saw Doran as weak and ineffectual.

The Night's Watch

Thorne has regrouped after the Jon Snow murder... now we have a small band of Jon Snow Loyalists teaming up with Ser Davos and Snow's Direwolf.... Clearly a role for Melisandre to be involved here.

Melisandre

Didn't see that metamorphis coming but she's obviously been around the track longer than we knew. Whether Jon Snow gets resurrected is still in the air, but she's clearly extremely powerful... more than we even thought before - maybe she can even metamorphis into John Snow visually? We've seen the face changers at Bravos do similar.

Sansa/Theon/Brienne

I was dreading the possibility of these two being caught and returned to Ramsay for continued abuse and torture... I think that story ran it's course already (it was good, but like some of Dany's plots - you kind of want a change in direction)... so Brienne's arrival was welcomed and the escape is on.

Ramsay/Roose

Ramsay now under pressure from Roose. Veiled threats and we know Roose is a cold ruthless but pragmatic man. The minute Ramsay's negatives outweigh his positives in Roose's masterplan then he's toast.... unless he kills Roose first.

Tyrion/Varys/Dany

Tyrion will now govern Mareen with Varys and Jorah goes looking for Dany, who has been captured by Dothraki.

I should've seen that Dorne massacre coming but I didn't so it made for a decent surprise. I'm guessing the Lannister army is going to be paying Dorne a visit in the near future. I too was glad that Sansa and the gimp didn't get captured again. It will be interesting to see how the Night's Watch action plays out, it's brewing up to be quite the battle for Snow's body.
