folks montreal and cincy might furnish us the information we seek about roger and rafa.

at the current rate I don't think it is looking too good. one played and lost early at both events and other one just did not bother playing at all after losing in the very first round at Wimbledon.

I will be honest with you: I don't think they are set to shine in montreal and cincy. I just cant see it happening.

I expect early round losses from both at both events.

The question is not how they each do, but what matters. Rafa has no points to defend, and can go into Canada just looking to get himself to #4 for the USO. Roger has points to defend, and has to get himself into confidence mode. And there is talk he won't even play, due to the back.

I thought roger skipped Toronto last year.

nadal`s lead of around 900 points seems safe at the moment.

did you forget how long nadal and roger dominated the sport? how many slams do they have between them again? nearly 30.

and how many masters events? nearly 10,000.

they were not going to be top ranked forever.

Yes, Roger skipped Toronto, then won Cincinnati.

so who is getting the clay warrior at the u.s. open?

I have andy winning the open so for that to happen, I am naturally hoping to see nadal in nole`s 1/2.

I don't really expect nadal to make the semis but if he does and the knee is holding up, then I have to like his chances against nole.

I predict a major let down for Andy in USO. I am expecting
that he will be upset by some not so surprising player (somebody
ranked between, say 10 and 50; someone like say Wawrinka,
Philip Kohlschrbier caliber type players) before reaching the semifinal.

To me it's only natural to have a "let down!" The fact is he's expected to do better now that he's won 2 majors and an Olympic Gold! The pressure has to be excruciating! We'll see how his summer goes before the Open!

he flew over his biggest hurdle. he blasted his way past it in a dominating fashion. there were some doubts and the british press also created all those expectations.

77 years of burden was removed in a dominating style.

now I think it gets easier for him. now any and all doubts have been removed.

also nole is #1, not andy. guess who has the burden of pressure?

lendl was not born last night and neither was I.

lendl said that andy has nole on the run now. only he said it after I said it.

everybody is starting to read the tennis frontier.

One difference I see is that Andy now has pressure to have a dominant year like Novak, Rafa, and Roger have all had winning at least 2 slams and becoming #1, so I think you underestimate the expectations on Andy. They're is definitely pressure on Novak, but Andy's burdain is far from light. And really, for Novak, a final can't go any worse that Wimbledon. Andy may also have a rafa to reckon with and not Jerzy (a good developing player). Things opened up for Andy at Wimbledon, it is hard to imagine it going so nicely for him at the U.S. Open even if he wins.

Maybe Andy is content to pick up a slam a year and be number 2, thus no added pressure, but I doubt it. Winning just adds pressure to win more. If at the end of 2010, you said novak would have 6 slams by 2013, that would sound great, but now the question is why doesn't he have 8. He wasn't as dominant as fed during his peak, etc. The road doesn't get easier for Andy, if he wants to measure himself against his contemporaries.

you have to put some pressure on yourself also in order to achieve something truly big.

so some pressure is ok but andy does have nole on the run now.

The response is quite simple. JMDP. he had a very good Wimbledon and he came back in form at Washington. I hope he paces himself and skip Cincy if he will be tired after Montreal. remember, that is what he did in 2009, when he was gassed in the final in Montreal and 3 weeks later he was able to lift the trophy.

I agree that Juan Martín is poised to threaten at the USO, whatever shape Roger is in. He seems to have been building in form and confidence over the last year. No one is going to want him in their quarter. He's absolutely my pick, outside of the Big 4.

Yes herois. I think JMDP will be quite a threat at USO. He has been progressively playing very good tennis.
