RE: 2013 U.S. Open Sidewalk Cafe Chats

I think the great dunblane warrior is taking this folks.

now my question is this:

is he on a path to all time greatness if he takes the u.s. open again?

what will it take? will 6-7 slams make him an all time great?

I have him as the favorite for the next wimbledon crown already.

I have doubts he takes the USO. There are much hungrier players at the moment.

there is no one more hungry than the great dunblane warrior. he has tasted the magical elixir of greatness.

he said he is more now motivated than ever before.

hunger alone will not get it done anyway: you need the ability as well. right now he looks more capable.

you combine his hunger and his ability and just add forward momentum and you come up with a beast that is a runaway steel locomotive. even lendl said that andy has nole on the run.

actually, i am somewhat afraid that herios might have a point. keeping the hunger up and the fire burning is something that we've seen Andy struggle with at times. he did great in winning the USO after the olympic triumph, but after the slam, it really took a while before he produced another really great result and convincing performance - all the way to Wimby, if you will. so it'll remain to be seen whether Andy actually can build/keep that momentum here. i'd LOVE it, but i have to see before i believe, sorry.

affirmative general johnsteinbeck.

lets see if my luck holds on the prediction front as it relates to andy:

1. i said he would win the u.s. open 2 months before it happened.

2. i said that he was going to make history at Wimbledon as soon as he won queens.

3. now i say he has his eyes on the prize. its his crown and he is going there to defend it. it gets a lot easier after you have taken down the greatest player in the game not once but twice on 2 different surfaces.

I sure hope that Rafa faces Murray in the USO final... I have spent the past 4 weeks of this Summer watching the cartoon network with my 6 year son.. I am feigning for some King of Clay, the Spanish Bull, the dirt Devil or just Rafa.. no more Sponge Bob squarepants :nono:laydownlaughing

A work colleague of mine was at a wedding in Barcelona last weekend and amazingly enough he had his photo taken wearing Andy Murray's Olympic gold medal. Apparently Andy's best friend from Glasgow was there and he trusts him enough to let him show his medal around. Kind of unreal really. Imagine if the strap broke and he lost it. Kinda speechless really. Saw the photo today in work.

Maybe it was a high-quality reproduction, which some people have made, and keep the original locked away. I'm not saying you're wrong, but it does seem highly unlikely that Andy's medial would show up like that, without his even being there.

I see the point, but I think it could work either way for Murray...the Wimbledon win is HUGE for him. Obviously he's got the momentum, of the big guys, into the No.Am HC swing. IMO, he only has to do reasonably well in Montreal and Cincy. I think he's riding a wave of confidence into the next Slam. However, there has been a lot of press on it, and hopefully it hasn't been too distracting, which would be the other way it could go. But he's not trying to win his first Slam, like last year. To me, he's mentally reached a new level with his attitude to winning. As much as Djokovic was flat in the Wimby final, I do really think Murray went in not to be denied a 2nd time. I still pick him as the top favorite, if slightly, over Djokovic.

I take no notice of the 'favourite' tag. It means absolutely nothing. As we know it doesn't guarantee that you'll be holding the trophy at the end of the fortnight.

Andy has described the gold medal as one of his most treasured possessions. I’d be very surprised if he let any friend carry it about with them. Very odd.

I like the way lendl is thinking folks. maybe he too has discovered tennis frontier.

he says andy has nole on the run. he could not be more right.

all of the doubts are gone now. now there are only conquests to be had.

he will approach big matches with signifcantly more confidence now.

Yeah quite possibly a reproduction in that case. Friend in work said it looked like the real deal and pretty heavy so must be a very high quality replica.

I was going to make a list but to be honest, it's a waste of time till we see the draw but on paper at least if he makes it Haas could trouble a few of the top players. But again, it's pointless till we see the draw.
