I find this to be a bizarre appointment, to say the least. But I'll hold fire and see how it goes. Again, Andy has gone for an unusual choice. It worked great with Lendl. I just don't...well, sorry, I'll hold fire... :nono

Well, you don't need a penis or a vagina to determine Andy needs a better second serve. I am sure Mauresmo have some ideas as to how she can improve Andy's game. I hope she succeeds.

I can honestly say I never thought I would read these particular words, in this combination, in the ATP Forum, and agree. Well done, Murat. :clap ;)

Well the rumours were correct....Mauresmo is the new coach for Andy.

I hope this new partnership is a successful one.

I will be interested to hear Iona's thoughts regarding Mauresmo as Andy's new coach.

I'd be lying if I said I was over the moon. I did think he might hire a female coach but I was thinking Martina and to be honest I would have preferred her. With her passion for the game and her impressive CV I would have been curious to see what she could bring to the table.

Andy is being viewed as a trailblazer. The majority of the comments I've read on social media, newspaper websites etc. is how he's hired a woman. A gay woman. That is what the focus seems to be. Not that it's specifically Mauresmo. I don't really care that he's hired a woman. I certainly don't care that she's gay. I just can't honestly see why he made that choice.

His mother has been pushing for more female coaches but I really hope that didn't play a part in Andy's decision. When you're considering a coach I would hope gender wouldn't be a factor. At least not a major one. If Andy has decided to hire Murresmo - what Murray fans have renamed her - because of what he thinks she can bring to team Murray then great. I just hope that's all it was. He's a huge admirer of the WTA and regularly watches and comments on matches. All very positive and appreciated by legends such as Martina and BJK.

I seem to be in the minority. Most of his female fans are happy with the appointment. The guys not so much. I'm with the guys. I really hope Amelie proves to be an inspired choice. Hey at least the French might like him now. :)

BTW it is just for the grass season as far as I know. Will see how it goes.

Lots of quotes from Andy and Amelie in this article.

Bizarre IMO, I just don't see what Mauresmo brings to the table for him. Not sure if he's trying to make a point but we will see how it works out. Murray should do well on grass so they will have a good chance to start out well.

Funny I heard a rumor it might be Martina; just found another gay woman to train him! Bravo! :clap

She lived it; changed the sport to an elite status! She encouraged the rest of those COWS on the WTA to finally get in shape! That girl from the US I saw recently at the FO was a throwback; athletic, but fat! I think her last name was Townsend! You just don't see too much of that at this level, but in the old days before '81 or so, it was quite common! I think Richard Krajicek got in trouble for voicing his opinion about them; "80% are fat pigs" or something! I think he recanted later and came down to 75%! :lolz: :snigger :laydownlaughing

She would be the only woman I see who could coach an elite player. Not to sound sexist but most of those female players can't comprehend the type of action and pace the men are hitting with. With Martina you have one of the greatest champions in the women's game, a fierce competitor, and one who played a very attacking style. Even then...not sure it would work. With Mauresmo I just don't see it doing much of anything.

I find it bizarre because Andy has more grass results than Mau Mau. She won Wimby once and got to the SF's a couple of times. I don't know what else she can add to his game.

Maybe he talked to Bartoli (who hired Amelie to replace her father last year) and got some inspiration from Marion as to what Amelie could bring to the table.

Their games are quite similar, but it is rare for a guy to have a female coach on the tour! I can remember it occurring only once; a Russian named Andrei Chesnokov! His game was very much like Matts Wilander back in the 80's and 90's! He was good, but because of the coach, I always saw him as soft! He may have been in the bottom of the top 10 once! If I remember correctly, it was Andrei and Natasha Zvereva that decided they weren't going to turn over all their winnings to the Russian Federation!

But couldn't the same be said for guys like Roche? It's practically a different sport compared to his era.

The query I have with Mauresmo is...she wasn't really known for her mental toughness on the court,I really dont know what she can offer Andy as his coach.

Mauresmo was doing some coaching already; another female player, but I haven't seen or heard of heard in a couple years! According to Wiki:

In June and July 2010, Mauresmo temporarily coached fellow French player Michaël Llodra during the grass season.

In 2012 Amelie Mauresmo joined forces with 2012 Australian Open Champion and then-World No.1 Victoria Azarenka and her team as a support coach to help the Belarussian in defending her World No.1 ranking and launching an assault on the remaining three Grand Slams of 2012 and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

In 2013, Mauresmo started coaching French No. 1 Marion Bartoli, joining forces with her shortly before the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. Under her tutelage, Bartoli would win her first Grand Slam title there without dropping a set (or even playing a tiebreak set), and credited her for her career revival (entering these Championships, Bartoli had yet to even reach a semi-final in 2013).

On 8 June, Mauresmo was announced as the new coach of Andy Murray. :clap :nono :puzzled

So the rumour during RG was true...Amelie denied but she's finally new Andy's coach, what a strange choice from Andy, not sure that she can do better than Ivan.
